Mr. Mohsin Raza
Branch Manager
Shadbagh Branch
Lahore
Q1: How did you start your banking career?
A: I started my banking career in 1981 with BCCI in Lahore. During my tenure with the bank I was rotated in almost all
departments including accounts, general banking, trade finance and credits. In 1992, I joined Union Bank as Vice-
President Credits of their Aiwan-e-Iqbal Branch. From there I was posted to their Gulberg Branch as Manager Operations,
where I served till 1998. In 1999, I joined Bank Alfalah’s LDA Plaza Branch. My first responsibility there was to
reorganize the Accounts Department of the branch. Then, I was made the Manager Operations and served in the capacity
till I was offered the responsibility of taking up the position of Branch Manager of the Shad Bagh Branch in 2005.
Q2: What challenges have you faced operating in this area?
A: The biggest challenge that we face here is related to our credits department. The market that we are operating in is very
difficult in the sense that there in no documentation here of any sort, which creates a problem when a client approaches us
for a loan. Since the majority of our clients here are not very literate, it is up to us to guide them. In fact, my branch has
played a significant role in teaching and grooming this market about proper documentation related to credits. Inspite of
these challenges, my team is performing very well and we are, inshallah going to touch Rs. 100 million in advances by
June 30.
Q3: What can you tell us about your team?
INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK
A: I have an excellent team of 22 officers
working in the branch, and I am very proud that
I have such a capable group of people to rely
on. They have all worked very hard to bring the
branch to this position. An example is my trade
finance team. The Shadbagh area does not
generate a lot of trade finance business, so a lot
of times my officers go out of this market to
bring in business for the branch. They have
managed to cross 150 million in just one year.
My BDOs are also working extremely hard to
build up the deposit base of the Branch.
Similarly the rest of my staff works with the
same dedication to achieve our targets.
Just for entertainment….

never quit a job
Marital status: often. Children: various
References: None. I've left a path of destruction behind me
Personal interests: donating blood. Fourteen gallons so far.
