It’s “Game On” for BCPS Students Participating in an Inaugural
Minecraft: Minepocalypse Challenge at Lauderhill 6-12
Event Takes Place on Saturday, March 12, 2016
-Excellent Feature Story and Photo/Video Opportunity-
It’s a fun, educational competition that takes students on a virtual adventure! On
Saturday, March 12, 2016, approximately 150 Broward County Public Schools
(BCPS) students from 47 District schools will take part in a Minecraft: Minepocalypse
challenge at Lauderhill 6 – 12, 1901 NW 49 Avenue, Lauderhill, FL 33313. The
event takes place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
During the Minecraft: Minepocalypse challenge, students use their imaginations to
build, create and explore within the famous gaming world of Minecraft. They also
compete in Minecraft battles and complete challenges that are aligned with the
Florida Standards to reinforce students’ skills in science, social studies and mathematics. Students use their problem-solving and
critical thinking skills to complete tasks and activities specially designed around concepts being taught in their classrooms.
“The Minecraft: Minepocalypse event is an excellent way to engage students with activities that support their learning, while doing what
they love to do in the popular Minecraft gaming world,” said Randal Deich, STEM Coordinator, Lauderhill 6-12. “It creates connections
between what students are learning in school and how they have to use their knowledge of these concepts to complete challenges and
earn points. We’ve had an incredible response to our inaugural event and we’re excited to see the creativity of our students.”
Media Are Invited to Cover the Minecraft: Minepocalypse Challenge
