Middle and High School Students
Reedley, CA – Reedley College will host its annual STEM Conference on Saturday, April 23. Central
Valley middle school, high school and college students are invited to attend the free event and learn about
what it takes to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering and math.
The STEM conference is a public outreach event designed to educate and inspire high school and college
students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This family-friendly event
promotes scientific discovery through hands-on activities, workshops, and demonstrations while
providing the opportunity to learn about career pathways from actual scientists, engineers and health
professionals. In addition, this annual event helps to raise awareness of the importance of STEM in our
community.
The conference will kick off at 8:30 a.m. Included will be many sessions of fun and engaging STEM
activities for students such as making ice cream and doodling with 3D pens. To inspire, engage, inform
and educate students, and that will promote their interest in the areas of Science, Technology,
Engineering, Mathematics, and Health Fields, providing experiences that are not available in the day-to-
day curriculum.
Last year’s engaging presentation by keynote speakers Dr. William H. Robertson aka, Dr. Skateboard,
and Juan Martinez, National Geographic Emerging Explorer and The North Face ambassador attracted
over 1,200 middle school, high school and college students, primarily from Fresno, Tulare, Madera, and
Merced County areas.
Mechanical Engineer David Leal of Domino Saints, a Latin pop duo from Puerto Rico, will serve as the
keynote speaker and is set to close the event at 3:00 p.m. with a live performance. Domino Saints’ sound
is a mix between Latin sounds, urban beats and electronic music.
