The new Blackburn local FM radio licence has been awarded to 'The Bee',
which will launch a full-service station for Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington and
surrounding areas, promising to allocate significant resources to the broadcast
of local news and information. The Bee’s main investors are Two Boroughs
Radio and The Radio Business, who each hold 32.5% of the group’s shares.
Burnley station Two Boroughs Radio is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Local
Radio Company, which holds interests in 24 local stations. London-based The
Radio Business is a consultancy owned by radio executives Lynn Bell and
Martyn Rose. Bell was a shareholder in Two Boroughs Radio until the station
was recently sold to The Local Radio Company, though she remains a non-
executive director.
