Lessons From A Leper
In our Bible reading today, from Matthew chapter 8, is the story of the Leper whom
Jesus cleansed. This story challenged me with a few personal questions:
1. The Leper was pronounced unclean by society. He lived a life of rejection and
segregation because of his condition. Jesus reached out to him. Am I willing to reach
out to those who our society has rejected?
2. The Leper was untouchable. Touching a leper would identify the person with the leperʼs
uncleanliness. A person who touched a leper would be regarded as unclean. Christ
touched him. Am I willing to identify with those who are in need?
3. The Leper was cleansed, but Christ told him not to proclaim his transformation to anyone,
but to show himself to the priests and be proclaimed clean by them. Do other people see
Godʼs transforming power at work in my life?
