Newedge
Newedge is a major force in global multi-asset brokerage, with a world-
leading position in the execution and clearing of listed derivative
products. Formed in 2008 from a joint venture between Fimat and Calyon
Financial, it now does business on more than 85 global exchanges from 20
locations across 16 countries.
BACKGROUND
As part of a program of system modernization across its global post-trading architecture,
Newedge selected Pivotal products and solutions to create an agile architecture able to
respond to increasing demands in a dynamically evolving marketplace.
Newedge initiated its NVision strategy to ensure the future capability and scalability of
its global post-trading operations. Pivotal provided a cost-effective solution to create
an agile and flexible IT architecture that is also capable of absorbing sudden peaks of
trading activity in increasingly volatile markets. Group CIO, Alain Courbebaisse, says, “We

Newedge also chose Pivotal products and solutions for a number of strategic
technology reasons:
• Its open source heritage meant that there was no threat of future lock-in to obsolete
technologies. The desire to ‘own’ the solution and be self-sufficient in future phases
could be realised
• Pivotal’s vision for its solution suite – to provide all the necessary products and services
to create an agile Platform- as-a-Service(PaaS)architecture–wasperfectlyalignedtothe
future needs of the global broker to ensure it offered a fluid architecture supporting an
agile business operation
• A desire to move towards a decentralised, cloud ready, ‘always on’ private cloud with no
single point of failure (SPoF) based around a staged event driven architecture
As well as the strategic alignment, the NVision program resulted in a number of further,
more tangible objectives being met:

created by latency sensitive global flows
