While suspending operations at the well, other operations in the region continue as the security situation at the well site remains stable. Oil Search saw large increases in production and profits in the first half of 2014 driven by new natural gas projects in Papua New Guinea. Mubadala Petroleum, an Abu Dhabi company, purchased a 10% stake in the Egyptian Shorouk Concession from Italian company Eni. The concession contains the Zohr gas field, Egypt's largest gas discovery. Financial terms were not disclosed. The stake purchase marks Mubadala Petroleum's first investment in Egypt as it expands globally. Eni will retain a 50% stake in the concession after the sale to Mubadala. The transaction is subject to Egyptian government approval.
Separately, Eni was awarded stakes in two Abu Dhabi offshore oil concessions, marking the Italian company's entry into the UAE's oil and gas sector. Eni purchased a 10
Spanish energy contractor Técnicas Reunidas was awarded a $1.7 billion contract by Saudi Aramco to build a large integrated gasification combined cycle power complex in Saudi Arabia's Jazan Province. The Jazan IGCC complex will convert residue from an adjacent refinery into synthesis gas and will have a total output of approximately 2,400 MW when operational in 2017. Swedish energy company Tethys Oil discovered over 1 billion barrels of heavy oil in Block 4 in Oman that will require enhanced oil recovery techniques to extract, and found both light and heavy crude oils in the block, presenting opportunities. RWE Dea connected its fourth well to production at its natural gas project Disouq in Egypt
The UAE Energy Minister said that the current low oil prices could boost global economic growth in 2015 higher than expected. This is because lower oil prices stimulate economic activity. However, the oversupply of oil needs to be absorbed and may take months or years to resolve fully. The IMF has forecasted UAE GDP growth of 4.5% in 2015 due to stronger non-oil sectors. Additionally, Gulfsands Petroleum discovered gas deposits in Morocco and ConocoPhillips started production from its Eldfisk II project in Norway.
The document discusses efforts by the European Union to diversify its natural gas sources and reduce dependence on Russia. The EU is hoping that future gas imports from Iran, through proposed pipeline projects in the Southern Corridor, can help meet this goal. Lifting of sanctions on Iran as part of a potential nuclear deal could allow Iranian gas to start flowing to Europe. However, significant challenges remain in developing the infrastructure to transport Iranian and other Caspian gas to European markets.

Norway's $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund has proposed selling off nearly $35 billion in oil and gas stocks from its portfolio. This would be the largest divestment from fossil fuels to date. The fund currently owns about 1.5% of global stocks. If it sells its oil and gas holdings, it would add significant momentum to the fossil fuel divestment movement. However, Norway's economy relies heavily on oil and gas production, so the proposed change aims more to diversify risk than address climate change. Still, environmental activists see it as a major step that could increase pressure on oil companies facing challenges from renewable energy growth.

Spanish energy contractor Técnicas Reunidas was awarded a $1.7 billion contract by Saudi Aramco to build a large integrated gasification combined cycle power complex in Saudi Arabia's Jazan Province.

The document discusses OMV's plans and investments in Abu Dhabi and other regions. Key points:
- OMV plans to increase investments and partnerships with Abu Dhabi's state energy companies Ipic and Adnoc.
- OMV has existing projects in Abu Dhabi including a sour gas project and exploration projects.

The document discusses Egypt's strategy to optimize the value of its petroleum resources by focusing on natural gas development and deepwater exploration. Egypt has significant natural gas reserves, with an estimated 72.3 trillion cubic feet currently and potential reserves of up to 120 tcf. Much of Egypt's natural gas lies in the deep waters of the Mediterranean. Egypt's long term strategy includes expanding petrochemical, LPG, and LNG capacity to increase the value derived from natural gas reserves and capitalize on export markets. Developing deepwater reserves and adding value to natural gas through downstream projects are key goals for Egypt's petroleum future.
Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to revitalize its oil and gas sector through new investment and technology. As an oil producer for over a century, its reserves are declining but substantial potential remains untapped. The government is taking steps to make the fiscal regime more competitive and attract new exploration through tax changes and incentives. Recent discoveries and increased rig activity indicate the strategy is having an impact in driving new investment and production.

Egypt has significant oil and gas reserves and is actively exploring to increase reserves. While oil production has declined from older fields, intensive exploration efforts have led to new discoveries. Egypt has well-defined plans to increase production of refined products and petrochemicals by expanding existing facilities and developing a new large export-oriented refining and petrochemical complex. Egypt aims to add value to its natural gas resources through LNG exports and a growing petrochemical industry as part of its long-term strategy.
This document summarizes Oman's history as a trading nation and its current efforts to diversify its economy and create jobs through investments in infrastructure, industries, and developing its oil and gas resources. It discusses how national oil company Petroleum Development Oman is increasing production through enhanced oil recovery techniques and creating local jobs. It also profiles independent operator Occidental Oman and its use of technology to increase production at fields in Oman.
Oman implemented a policy called "Omanisation" in 1988 to replace expatriate workers with qualified Omani citizens. This was done by setting quotas for different industries to hire a certain percentage of Omani workers. The goal was to reduce unemployment among Omani graduates and lessen economic dependence on foreign workers. While Omanisation has increased opportunities for Omanis and benefited the economy, some industries have struggled to meet quotas due to a lack of qualified Omani applicants. Both opportunities and challenges remain as Oman works to transition to a majority-Omani workforce.
Qatar is a wealthy Gulf state that is seeking to diversify its economy beyond oil and gas as those resources are finite. Under the leadership of Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar has invested heavily in education through institutions like Education City, which hosts branches of American universities, as well as other social and economic reforms. Sheikh Hamad views education, research, and developing a knowledge-based economy as central to Qatar's future prosperity and global competitiveness beyond the oil and gas sector.
Oman is increasing its production of oil and gas to fuel economic diversification and position itself as a major player in the region. The national oil company PDO is applying enhanced oil recovery technologies to increase and sustain long-term oil production. PDO is also developing local suppliers and creating jobs to support Oman's growth ambitions. Independent operators like Occidental Oman are helping to develop Oman's technology and expertise by bringing new approaches to challenging fields.
Oman is located in the Middle East, bordering the Arabian Sea, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and the UAE. Its capital is Muscat. The population is over 3 million people and the official language is Arabic, though English is also widely spoken.
Oman has a long history dating back over 10,000 years. In the early centuries AD, Oman converted to Islam. In more recent centuries, Portugal occupied Muscat for 140 years until being expelled in 1648. Today, the majority of Omanis are Ibadhi Muslims.

The Rise and Fall of Ponzi Schemes in America.pptxDiana Rose
Ponzi schemes, a notorious form of financial fraud, have plagued America’s investment landscape for decades. Named after Charles Ponzi, who orchestrated one of the most infamous schemes in the early 20th century, these fraudulent operations promise high returns with little or no risk, only to collapse and leave investors with significant losses. This article explores the nature of Ponzi schemes, notable cases in American history, their impact on victims, and measures to prevent falling prey to such scams.
Understanding Ponzi Schemes
A Ponzi scheme is an investment scam where returns are paid to earlier investors using the capital from newer investors, rather than from legitimate profit earned. The scheme relies on a constant influx of new investments to continue paying the promised returns. Eventually, when the flow of new money slows down or stops, the scheme collapses, leaving the majority of investors with substantial financial losses.
Historical Context: Charles Ponzi and His Legacy
Charles Ponzi is the namesake of this deceptive practice. In the 1920s, Ponzi promised investors in Boston a 50% return within 45 days or 100% return in 90 days through arbitrage of international reply coupons. Initially, he paid returns as promised, not from profits, but from the investments of new participants. When his scheme unraveled, it resulted in losses exceeding $20 million (equivalent to about $270 million today).
Notable American Ponzi Schemes
1. Bernie Madoff: Perhaps the most notorious Ponzi scheme in recent history, Bernie Madoff’s fraud involved $65 billion. Madoff, a well-respected figure in the financial industry, promised steady, high returns through a secretive investment strategy. His scheme lasted for decades before collapsing in 2008, devastating thousands of investors, including individuals, charities, and institutional clients.
2. Allen Stanford: Through his company, Stanford Financial Group, Allen Stanford orchestrated a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, luring investors with fraudulent certificates of deposit issued by his offshore bank. Stanford promised high returns and lavish lifestyle benefits to his investors, which ultimately led to a 110-year prison sentence for the financier in 2012.
3. Tom Petters: In a scheme that lasted more than a decade, Tom Petters ran a $3.65 billion Ponzi scheme, using his company, Petters Group Worldwide. He claimed to buy and sell consumer electronics, but in reality, he used new investments to pay off old debts and fund his extravagant lifestyle. Petters was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to 50 years in prison.
4. Eric Dalius and Saivian: Eric Dalius, a prominent figure behind Saivian, a cashback program promising high returns, is under scrutiny for allegedly orchestrating a Ponzi scheme. Saivian enticed investors with promises of up to 20% cash back on everyday purchases. However, investigations suggest that the returns were paid using new investments rather than legitimate profits. The collapse of Saivian l
