Week 1 Assignment
New Student Support Program
Fitting in a new learning environment is one of the challenges
that are affecting students in most of the higher learning
institutions. The diversity that has been promoted in the
learning sector leaves students in a tricky position, and this is
because some of the students come from different countries and
therefore they do not have people who they might have the same
background. It is therefore essential for the institution to focus
more on making sure that the students are absorbed to the
learning environment smoothly (Oudshoorn et al. 2017). There
is need to come up with programs that are helpful to the new
students, and they should help to make sure that the new
students do not feel like strangers as soon as they are absorbed
by the institution.
A new students’ board should be constituted to make sure that
when the new students are admitted in the school, they are
helped to find their way around and also to be conversant with
the environment (Lewallen, Hunt, Potts‐Datema, Zaza, & Giles,
2015). The board should have some of the senior students who
should be involved with the students as soon as the students are
admitted to the institution. At the same time, the new students
should be informed that they can access the board and ask for
help whenever they are stranded (Stiglitz & Rosengard, 2015).
Some of the support that the board should offer to the new
students is about the way around the school as well as the rules
and regulations of the school.
Inclusion is also another way of making sure that new students
feel as part and parcel of the school. The school should have
students’ groups that partner in performing different academic
and sports tasks. As soon as the new students are admitted, they
should be introduced to the groups (Albashiry, Voogt, &
Pieters, 2016). When students are introduced to groups, and at
the same time they are engaged in school activities, fitting in
becomes easier, and that is helpful to their academic lives.

part of your research last week. Which of those programs or
services are currently available in your institution? Which ones
are not? Consider what new programs or services you would
like to see offered at your institution to enhance the student
experience and facilitate success for all students. How might
you use assessment data to analyze the feasibility of a proposed
program?
Assignment
Submit a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following:
· Identify one new program for your institution.
· Describe how you can determine the current need that exists
for the program.
· Explain how you will monitor the progress of the program if it
is adopted.
· Describe how you plan to assess the success of the program
once it has been fully implemented.

Running head: PROPOSAL 1 PROPOSAL 4 Proposal Tangela Jones Walden University Week 1 Assignment New Student Support Program Fitting in a new learning environment is one of the challenges that are affecting students in most of the higher learning institutions. The diversity that has been promoted in the learning sector leaves students in a tricky position, and this is because some of the students come from different countries and therefore they do not have people who they might have the same background. It is therefore essential for the institution to focus more on making sure that the students are absorbed to the
  • 6. learning environment smoothly (Oudshoorn et al. 2017). There is need to come up with programs that are helpful to the new students, and they should help to make sure that the new students do not feel like strangers as soon as they are absorbed by the institution. A new students’ board should be constituted to make sure that when the new students are admitted in the school, they are helped to find their way around and also to be conversant with the environment (Lewallen, Hunt, Potts‐Datema, Zaza, & Giles, 2015). The board should have some of the senior students who should be involved with the students as soon as the students are admitted to the institution. At the same time, the new students should be informed that they can access the board and ask for help whenever they are stranded (Stiglitz & Rosengard, 2015). Some of the support that the board should offer to the new students is about the way around the school as well as the rules and regulations of the school. Inclusion is also another way of making sure that new students feel as part and parcel of the school. The school should have students’ groups that partner in performing different academic and sports tasks. As soon as the new students are admitted, they should be introduced to the groups (Albashiry, Voogt, & Pieters, 2016). When students are introduced to groups, and at the same time they are engaged in school activities, fitting in becomes easier, and that is helpful to their academic lives. References Albashiry, N.
