The expansion of the Ruwais refinery in Abu Dhabi will be fully commissioned by the end of 2014, doubling its capacity from 415,000 to 817,000 barrels per day. The expansion project includes adding new units like a residue fluidized catalytic cracker and carbon black delayed coker. It will enable the production of 1.1 million tons of propylene annually for a nearby petrochemical complex. GCC states exported $55.5 billion worth of petrochemicals in 2013, with partnerships along the supply chain and developing rail infrastructure needed to support future industry growth.
