On August 6, 2011, 30 service members were killed in the line of duty, including two explosive ordnance disposal technicians, Senior Chief Petty Officer Kraig M. Vickers and Chief Petty Officer Select Nicholas H. Null, who died defending their country. While these heroes were known by few, they paid the ultimate price for freedom in a volunteer military doing dangerous work to ensure the safety of others. Their commander asks that they and their families be remembered in thoughts and prayers.

It is with great sorrow that I inform you that on 06 August 2011, we
lost 30 Heroes, that crossed the bar long before their time, in the service of
their country. Among those 30 Heroes were Explosive Ordnance Disposal
Technician Senior Chief Petty Officer Kraig M. Vickers and Chief Petty Officer
Select Nicholas H. Null. They died defending our country, doing their duty, in
an all volunteer force, in an all volunteer job, at an all volunteer unit that knows
the cost of freedom. While they were known by few; they paid the ultimate
price for us all. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and
prayers.
