Neustar provides cloud-based DNS services and manages internal DNS, DHCP, and IPAM. They were injecting DNS data into Oracle databases, which then replicated the data to DNS server nodes. To support DNSSEC requirements like increased data and versioning, Neustar conducted a proof of concept migrating to the Cassandra database. This provided significantly improved write times over Oracle. However, issues arose with versioning, indexing, pagination and syncing Cassandra with Oracle. Lessons were learned around the data model design and involving other teams earlier. Future plans include a simplified data model and common interface to Oracle and Cassandra.
