As enterprises and their IT providers seek to harness the potential of cloud computing, their networks must be equipped with five essential elements:
1. High-bandwidth/low-latency switching
2. Convergence to Ethernet
3. Massive virtualization for agile workloads
4. Scalable management
5. Advanced energy efficiency
Java For The Cloud Presentation @ AlphaCSP's JavaEdge 2008Baruch Sadogursky
This document discusses the evolution of applications from single machines to large distributed systems across multiple machines and data centers. It notes that building and maintaining such large infrastructures can be costly and inefficient if the capacity is not fully utilized. The document then introduces cloud computing as a more efficient alternative that allows applications to dynamically scale across remote data centers and only pay for the resources that are actually used. Several examples of cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services, Google App Engine, and Microsoft Azure are provided. Both advantages and potential drawbacks of cloud computing are discussed.
Nevmug Martins Point Health Care J Anuary 2009csharney
Martin's Point Health Care implemented a highly virtualized storage and computing environment using 3PAR storage and VMware to address the limitations and management challenges of their previous monolithic architecture. The new solution provides unlimited scalability, high availability, advanced disaster recovery, and a 75% reduction in storage administration. It allows over 50 hosts to connect to Microsoft SQL databases and has realized a 25% cost savings and 85% reduction in provisioning time.
Converting a scrum team to kanban - Mattias SkarinAGILEMinds
This document discusses converting a Scrum team to Kanban. It describes a team that was experiencing problems with Scrum including wrong estimates, stress, and an inability to deliver quality work on schedule. The team adopted Kanban practices to improve visibility into workflow and address problems. After two weeks of Kanban, the team saw improvements in estimates and reduced stress. The document outlines further steps taken to refine the Kanban process and have the team take more ownership over process improvements.
CERN's IT infrastructure is reaching its limits and needs to expand to support increasing computing capacity demands while maintaining a fixed staff size. CERN is addressing this by expanding its data center capacity through a new remote facility in Budapest, Hungary, and by adopting new open source configuration, monitoring and infrastructure tools to improve efficiency. Key projects include deploying OpenStack for infrastructure as a service, Puppet for configuration management, and integrating monitoring across tools. The transition will take place between 2012-2014 alongside LHC upgrades.
Go beyond job schedulng webcast part 1David Resnic
The document is a summary of a webcast by CA about moving beyond traditional job scheduling to workload automation. It discusses challenges facing modern datacenters and the need for automation. CA's vision is for workload automation that is dynamic, integrates business and IT, and supports cloud computing. The webcast covered CA Workload Automation and how it addresses key aspects of workload automation like multi-platform administration and control, intelligent resource management, and support for virtualization.
How FTI can help your small rural or remote community get online today!Lisa Tolan
This document recommends that communities implement high-speed broadband internet using wireless technology to provide reliable service to residents and businesses. It notes that internet usage is growing and requiring higher speeds. The representative argues that dial-up internet is no longer sufficient and that communities should act now to apply for federal grant and loan programs to expand broadband access. Implementing a wireless internet system using an industrial satellite solution from FTI could generate additional revenue for the community and improved internet speeds of over 450kbps compared to traditional options.

Indiana University implemented a centralized Splunk deployment to provide log management services across the university's decentralized IT environment. They developed a scalable multi-tenant architecture using deployment servers, forwarders, and a search head cluster. To onboard new customers, they created a script that automatically configures forwarders, indexes data by department, and applies the necessary configurations. Over time, they expanded their services by refining their apps, training customers, and increasing the number of departments and servers supported. Their goal is to further develop apps to help audit compliance and expand Splunk's use for additional IT systems across the university.
Cisco introduced AutoQoS, which automates quality of service configurations to simplify, speed up, and reduce the costs of VoIP deployments. AutoQoS uses intelligence to automatically classify applications, generate QoS policies, and configure devices with a single command. This can reduce deployment time and costs by up to 3 times compared to manual QoS configuration.

• Other projects would simply be managed by the Development
department but work maybe completed via outsourced labor. There
would still be an increase in management time and so a possible cost to
other projects.

other switches team members.
• In order to cover these hours there will be 10 employees on the

23. • Initially the team was planned to be built in the Philippines. There
are some benefits to the Philippines;
• We already know the culture and the quality of the people. We know
what we can get there.
• We know the pay rate and already have the location installed and
ready.
• We have others who could help cover in a “Pickle” (this is for you
Don)
• I am looking at the possibility of moving the team to Honduras. Here
are some benefits.
• It would give us a commitment of work out of the gate.
• It would be much closer to travel to for setup and training.
• It is the same time zone and so the supervisor position maybe easier
to staff at a higher level.
• While we do not know the exact pay difference we know that they
are comparable. We can always use Philippines employees to help
cover in an emergency.

24. • The NOC will be On Call – 24/7. They will be handling all outages
from a documentation and coordination standpoint. We will continue
to give them tools to help reduce the amount of downtime
associated with any outage.
• They will be a prevention and verification unit. They will be able to
place test calls to campaigns. They will be able to monitor for
system problems and give notification before the clients. They will
be verifying daily data backups. They will be able to look at the logs
of systems on the network and identify any potential problems
before they become a system outage.
• They will be able to perform simple tasks that take valuable time
away from system administrators. Camera footage look-ups, Email
account creation, password resets.
