The cement industry in Nepal experienced a growth in consumption from 1.33 million tonnes in FY 2000 to 3.28 million tonnes in FY 2011, with a CAGR of 8.6%, influenced by political stability and capacity investments. Despite a rated capacity of 4.34 million tonnes in FY 2011, local production was only 2.56 million tonnes, leading to significant imports, particularly from India. Future consumption is projected to reach around 4.7 million tonnes by FY 2015 and 8.1 million tonnes by FY 2021, with expectations of improved capacity utilization due to better power availability.
