Welcome to the summer issue of Innovations™ Magazine,
where industry experts from across the globe explore many of the pressing challenges — and successes — of pressurized piping operators.
Corrosion: The Pervasive Menace
Helping the public be – and feel – safe, the pipeline industry develops, employs, and shares best practice corrosion detection and control methods.
Turning Impossible into Piggable
Changing how we think about the integrity of low flow, low pressure lines with new low drag inspection tools.
More Stringent Safety Regulations
Preparing for NTSB compliance, U.S. transmission operators proactively seek safe and cost-effective options.
Local Sourcing in the Eagle Ford
Supporting shale play profitability in a low price environment through localized pipeline services model.
Nine shifts will radically change the way construction projects are delivered—and similar
industries have already undergone many of the shifts. A combination of sustainability
requirements, cost pressure, skills scarcity, new materials, industrial approaches, digitalization,
and a new breed of player looks set to transform the value chain. The shifts ahead include
productization and specialization, increased value-chain control, and greater customercentricity
and branding. Consolidation and internationalization will create the scale needed to
allow higher levels of investment in digitalization, R&D and equipment, and sustainability as well
as human capital.

With the increasing proliferation of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the
growing opportunity for real-time borderless exchange, cybersecurity is a complex transnational
issue that requires global cooperation for ensuring a safe Internet. According to a 2011 Norton

Digital Transformation in the Oil & Gas Industry | 2021Social Friendly
Upstream, midstream, and downstream – digital transformation all over has a direct impact on every aspect of the oil and gas sector. Digital innovation does require investment, and ideally, the cost of transformation can be covered to a large extent through savings made in traditional IT systems and services.
In this white paper, Social Friendly looks at the areas in which digital transformation promises the greatest short and mid-term benefit for oil and gas companies, and how to best optimize existing IT management practices to help unlock the full potential.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

A PESTLE analysis of the NEOM city project is a framework used
to examine the external factors that could impact its success.
3. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - POLITICAL
NEOM heavily relies on sustained political backing and financial commitment from the
Saudi government. Any change in leadership or priorities could jeopardize the project.
The volatile geopolitical environment in the Middle East poses potential
security risks, deterring investors and talent.
Diplomatic tensions between Saudi Arabia and other countries could hinder
foreign investment and partnerships.

4. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - ECONOMIC
Oil price
fluctuations:
Global economic
slowdown:
Attracting talent
and investors:
Saudi Arabia's dependence on oil revenues could be impacted by global
market fluctuations, potentially affecting funding for NEOM.
Competing with other mega-projects and established technology hubs
is crucial for attracting talent and investments.
A recession or economic downturn could discourage investments and
slow down NEOM's construction and growth.
5. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - SOCIAL
Cultural
shift:
Labor rights and
ethics:
Attracting diverse
population:
Creating a truly inclusive and multicultural environment is key
to attracting a diverse population.
Implementing a liberal and futuristic vision in a traditionally
conservative society might face resistance and social challenges.
Concerns about the treatment of migrant workers and potential
exploitation during construction could damage NEOM's reputation.
6. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - TECHNOLOGICAL
Cybersecurity
threats:
Technology adoption
and innovation:
Environmental
sustainability:
The project's ambitious sustainability goals require innovative solutions
for renewable energy, resource management, and waste reduction.
Reliance on advanced technology and automation makes NEOM
vulnerable to cyberattacks and data breaches.
Keeping pace with rapid advancements and integrating them
seamlessly into NEOM's infrastructure is crucial.
7. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - LEGAL
Investment

Data privacy and
security laws:
Labor laws and
regulations:
Robust data privacy and security laws are necessary to protect
individuals' data and build trust in NEOM's technological systems.
Establishing a clear and transparent legal framework for foreign
investors and businesses is essential for attracting capital.
Ensuring fair and ethical labor practices in line with international
standards is critical for NEOM's reputation and long-term success.
8. P.E.S.T.L.E Analysis - ENVIRONMENTAL
Climate change and

Protecting sensitive
ecosystems:
Sustainability and
resource management:
Building in a desert region poses challenges due to water
scarcity, heatwaves, and potential climate-related disasters.
Implementing sustainable practices for water, energy, and
waste management is essential for NEOM's long-term viability.
NEOM's development must be mindful of preserving surrounding
ecosystems and minimizing its environmental impact.
