Nehemiah 4:7-22
Sandballat’s Sinister Plot
• Sandballat & friends turn their
attentions against the wall. (4:7-8)
– They heard about the breaches
being mended progressively.
– They were angry!
– Their plans were for collaborated
confusion and confrontation.
Nehemiah’s Simple Prayer
• Nehemiah & friends turn their
attention toward God. (4:9)
– They heard about the plot being
made aggressively.
– They were scared!
– Their plans were for protection and
progress.
Nehemiah’s Struggling Peers
• The people at the wall were
growing weary and overwhelmed.
(4:10)
• The enemy continued to threaten
with terrorist tactics. (4:11)
• They recruited reinforcements
and positioned them in the
gaps. (4:12-13)
Nehemiah’s Powerful Speech
• Nehemiah & friends turned their
attention toward God. (4:14)
– Do not be afraid of them.
– Remember the LORD, who is great
and awesome.
– Fight for your families and homes.
Nehemiah’s Security Plan
• Nehemiah & friends armed
themselves and worked harder.
(4:15-23)
– God had frustrated the sinister plot.
– The workers were spread out but
well-armed and ready.
– Whenever the trumpet sounded
they would rally and fight off the
attackers.
PLUS Praying
• Planning + praying (7, 19-20)
• Working + praying (17, 21a)
• Guarding + praying (9, 22-23)
• Partners + praying (10, 12, 14, 16, 23)
• Armed + praying (16a, 18, 21b)
Praying is not passive.
PLUS Praying
• Pray to God for help in time of
trouble. (Ps 46:1-3)
• Rely on God’s excessive greatness
and awesomeness. (Deut 7:21, 10:17)
• Celebrate God’s integral part in
every successful feat.
• Fight alongside a
Protector, Who will fight for us.
(Ex 14:14, 25; Deut 1:29-31, 3:22, 20:3-4;
Josh 23:10-11)
