There are limited seats in any department .
Sometimes the applications are more than the seats
, and selection of all applications is not possible.
So Assessment gives help in selection.
 Decisions about where to place a child in out-of-home
care are made by considering the child's
strengths and needs, the skills of the available
caretakers or facilities, and the child's prospects for
permanency with family placements. Child
welfare agencies try to minimize the number of
placements a child lives in while in out-of-home
care to promote stability.
In education Pretest helps in deciding whether
students be admitted in class one or two while taking
admission in school.
Assessment helps in grouping of students.
E.g.
 Grouping of science and arts students.
 Grouping of Medical and non medical
students.
Assessments also play a vital role in diagnostic
and remedial. Its take helps in find out the
weaknesses of students and to over come those
weaknesses.
 Assessment of students is not end in itself. The
results of the assessment should be used as
feed back. It is more useful for a teacher than a
teacher. A teacher knows , how well he has
taught. It also useful for a student that how he
has learnt.
 The results of assessment are too useful for
Guidance and Counseling . Its gives help to
solve personal and social problems .It also
proves helpful in educational affairs e.g. a
student getting high marks in Biology may be
guided to opt. medical group in future.
The use of assessment in Administration is very
beneficial. Its helps in administrative decisions
like placement and group of students. It also
helps in promotion of students.
 No doubt assessment helps in improving
learning. After assessment we can judge by
own self e.g. what we have learnt and what we
have to learn.
 Assessment helps in Improving instruction.
After assessment a teacher comes to know that
how is his method of teaching. If the results of
pupils is not good then teacher has to improve
his instruction.
Assessment plays a vital role in promoting
students in next class. The performance of student
is evaluated in term of marks and grade. On the
basis of marks students are promoted in next
class.
In assessment the students become know with the
status of his knowledge and skills , when they are
evaluated. After the result of their assessment
they are motivated to work hard more than
pervious and to compete the followers.
Assessment provide an overall picture of
students‘ progress. The picture in the form of the
report is presented to parents. In this way parents
become aware with the progress of their child. In
this way assessment plays a key role in Reporting
pupil progress to parents . Its prove very helpful
for students.
The researchers use assessment technique
(interview, observation, tests, questionnaire etc.)
in order to conduct research. As the result of
conducting research they develop theories.
