NCPA is the first comprehensive U.S.-style high school program for Chinese nationals in Southern China. The NCPA experience begins with a rigorous academic program where students are challenged and excited by what they learn. Our philosophy of learning includes social, emotional, physical and character education. We believe this holistic approach to education is essential to the future success of your child. NCPA’s groundbreaking English immersion program is an extension of our commitment to holistic education. Every aspect of a student’s life at NCPA is focused on building English literacy. The goal is for every graduate of NCPA to be successful scholars in both Chinese and English. Our teachers strive to develop close relationships with their students because understanding them is critical when supporting their learning. It also is important to our educational program that our students know our staff cares about their welfare and academic success. In this way, the NCPA community resembles a “family” of learners. We want NCPA to be your child’s academic “home”. All students who enter our school in grade 9 take an introductory class in choir and band. This provides them with the ability to move into an advanced ensemble in grades 10 through 12. If you are considering the NCPA High School for your academic future and believe that your instrumental or vocal skills may qualify you for advanced placement in one of our bands or choirs, then we invite you to contact our Admissions Office to learn more about the audition process. In the short four years since its founding in 2012, NCPA has built a school program that rivals any top quality international school in China. The faculty and staff worked systematically and diligently to tailor a program that addresses the unique nature of our English as an Additional Language population. In a purposefully designed instructional setting, our students transform from inadequate language learners, to confident communicators. This accelerated development is largely due to the variety of carefully contextualized learning environment the school has created to engage students in different learning experiences. The Arts are subjects that combine academics and creativity. We believe arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also broadens their perspectives beyond the academia. It is with great pleasure I welcome you to our concert at the Xing Hai Performing Arts Center in Guangzhou. The Xing Hai Concert Hall offers a special venue for our students to share their talents with a much larger audience, on a much bigger stage. Through the efforts of our incredible Music faculty, NCPA has one of the finest music programs in China. The High School music program began with general music in its first year as a school (2012-13) and has expanded each year since to include concert band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, and concert choirs. Our students have grown in their music as well. For the second year in a row, NCPA students have been selected to attend the Association for Music International Schools (AMIS) Honor Choir in Luxembourg. For the first time this year, an NCPA student has been selected for the AMIS Honor Band in Doha, Qatar. The Xing Hai concert showcases all the different bands, choirs and ensembles of our program. The concert program includes music from all over the world including China. The music also varies by genre including folk, rock, musicals, and classics. I know you will enjoy the variety and complexity of the music. I congratulate the Music Department on this wonderful performance. I am grateful for their devotion to our students.
