A PROJECT IN PRACTICALITY, THIS PROPOSAL CREATES
FUNCTIONAL, AESTHETIC APARTMENT LIVING AND
SUPPORTING SPACES FOR THE RISING YOUNG
PROFESSIONALS OF WASHINGTON D.C.
THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES EFFICIENCY THROUGH
A PART-TO-WHOLE APPROACH TO ULTIMATELY EASE
STRUCTURAL DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, ANDS COSTS.
IN AESTHETICS, THE OUTWARD FACADE ASSIMILATES AND
PRESERVES THE OBSERVED TRANSITIONS HAPPENING

SYNOPSIS
ABSTRACT EXPLORATION IS PUT INTO ACTION
WITH THESE 4” x 10” PAPER MODELS TO ULTIMATELY
UNDERSTAND THE EFFECTS ON FORM AS A RESULT OF
MANIPULATING SELECTED CONTROLS.
TO BEGIN, A BASE CUTTING EQUATION WAS DEVELOPED
FOR 40 MODELS. 20 MODELS ARE USED TO COMPARE THE
RESULTS OF MATERIAL CHOICE - PLAIN PAPER VS WEAKER
PAPER TOWEL. ANOTHER 20 MODELS COMPARED
ALTERING VARIABLES IN THE CUTTING EQUATION.
THE OUTCOMING FORMS VARY WIDELY. SOME
CONDITIONS LEND THEMSELVES TO MORE CLOSED,
TALLER, AND NARROW FORMS, CONDITION 1 (C1) AND
CONDITION 3 (C3), THAN THEIR COUNTERPARTS.

SYNOPSIS
IN THE PAST, THE BALTIMORE INNER HARBOR WAS USED
PRIMARILY FOR INDUSTRIAL INTERESTS. ONLY RECENTLY HAS
IT DEVELOPED TO ATTRACT TOURISM AND RECREATION.
PROGRESSION IN THIS DIRECTION WILL IDEALLY RESULT IN THE
ABILITY FOR A PERSON TO TRAVEL AROUND THE ENTIRETY OF
THE HARBOR WITHOUT EVER BEING DISCONNECTED FROM THE
WATER’S EDGE.
CURRENTLY, KEY HIGHWAY, A MAJOR ROADWAY, DISCONNECTS
RESIDENTS LIVING BEHIND AND NEXT TO FEDERAL HILL FROM
THE WATERFRONT. THIS PROPOSAL CALLS FOR A NATURAL
BRIDGE AND PARK, HARBOR GREENWAY, TO SERVE AS A
PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY GROWING OUT FROM FEDERAL HILL
PARK TO RASH FIELD AND THROUGH TO THE WATER.

SYNOPSIS
DURING THE SUMMER OF 2015, I JOINED A CLASS THAT TRAVELED TO TURKEY TAUGHT BY
PROFESSOR AND ARCHAEOLOGIST ROBERT LINDLEY VANN. ON THIS TRIP, I GAINED HANDS-ON
EXPERIENCE WITH SURVEYING AND RECORDING A SMALL ANCIENT CITY CALLED APERLAE, LOCATED
ON TURKEY’S SOUTHERN COAST JUST OUTSIDE OF THE VILLAGE UCAGIZ. AS A TEAM, WE WORKED
TO MEASURE AND DRAW, OR CORRECT EXISTING DRAWINGS, OF THE REMAINS OF BUILDINGS.
SURVEYS COLLECTED INCLUDED INFORMATION ON A BUILDING’S PLACEMENT RELATIVE TO OTHER
BUILDINGS, AS WELL AS THE LOCATIONS OF THRESHOLDS, DOORS AND WINDOWS.
THE TRIP ALSO TOOK US TO OTHER ANCIENT ROMAN CITIES. ON-SITE DRAWINGS SERVED TO
DOCUMENT THE RUINS STILL STANDING. ON p.18, A FRAGMENT OF A CITY CHURCH’S APSE SHOWS
EVIDENCE OF MOSAIC AND THE PLASTER THAT HELD IT. THE DETAIL IN THE CURVING ELEMENT IS
PROOFOFANAPERTUREWITHINTHEWALL.ONTHEPAGEOPPOSITEAREOBSERVATIONALDRAWINGS
OF A BUILDING IN SIMENA AND A THEATER IN MYRA. ALSO DRAWN, I OFTEN ENCOUNTERED LYCIAN
TOMBS, ESPECIALLY IN APERLAE, WHICH STOOD TALL ON THE ROAD TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE CITY
AS A FORM OF INTIMIDATION TO ENEMIES.

SYNOPSIS
HIGH POINT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS SITUATED IN PASADENA,
MARYLAND. THE SCHOOL IS IN THE PROCESS TO BE RENOVATED
AND MODERNIZED. ONE OF THE SCHEMATIC DESIGN CONCEPTS
FOR THIS PROJECT FOCUSES ON A GRAND TREE NEAR THE
PROPOSED FRONT ENTRANCE.
AT THE TIME I JOINED THE TEAM, THE PROJECT WAS IN THE
CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENT PHASE. WHILE THE MAJORITY OF
THE BUILDING HAD ALREADY BEEN DESIGNED, THE CORRIDOR
PASSING ALONG THE GRAND TREE LACKED A POINT OF STASIS
TO APPRECIATE THE OLD OAK.
THE DESIGN CONSTRAINTS INCLUDED ACCOMMODATING
A.D.A, KEEPING AN 8’ CLEARANCE IN CASE OF FIRE, AND
REQUIRED CONSTRUCTION TO BE BUILT-IN CASEWORK.
THE SOLUTION FEATURES TWO PLANES THAT BEGIN
INDIVIDUALLY, MEET TO BECOME ONE, AND CONTINUE
MOVEMENT. CONSEQUENTLY, ALL STUDENTS, AND TEACHERS
HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT TOGETHER. IN ADDITION,
IT OFFERS A SURFACE TO DISPLAY STUDENT ARTWORK TO A
VISITOR WALKING THE HALL. 0’
