History, Purpose, & Goals

• History
   – In February 2012, CONUS Naval installations nominated teen
     representatives to comprise the first-ever Navy Teen Council.
   – 10 teens were selected from CNRMA, MW, NDW, NW, SE, SW

• Purpose
   – The Navy Teen Council (NTC) is designed to be cross-section of Navy
     teens representing all regions of Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP).
     The NTC is responsible for effectively communicating the issues and
     concerns that affect Navy teens to the highest levels of Navy leadership.

• Goals
   – Increase and improve communication between Navy teens and Navy
     leadership (Installation, Region, and Navy HQ)
   – Increase the relevancy of Navy Youth Programs in teens’ lives
   – Initiate change that will improve the quality of life for Navy teens
     worldwide
Deliverables

• Deliverables
   – Monthly Conference Calls with CNIC Specialists
   – Continuous communication via social media (Private Group)
   – Public Facebook Site to connect all Navy teens worldwide:
     www.facebook.com/navyteencouncil
   – Briefing Installation Leadership Quarterly/Post Trainings
   – Bi-annual surveys aligned with enterprise-wide concerns
   – Annual service projects to combat Navy teen issues

Joint Teen Council Training

• The Navy Teen Council (NTC) attended a Joint Teen Council
  Training in July 2012. Also, in attendance was the Air Force
  and Army Teen Councils.
• The 45 teens discussed the common issues affecting youth
  on military installations and attended sessions on
  leadership, teen advocacy, and public speaking all
  culminating in a formal out brief attended by respective
  Military Leadership.
Next Steps

• Inclusion of OCONUS Regions and Reservist Teen Reps to
  the NTC. Final count: 15.
• CNIC Finalizing the Fact Sheet and Operating Manual
   – Tasking of Youth Directors supervising NTC reps

• Cooperation with Air Force and Army Teen Councils
   – Communication Plan: Quarterly Conference Call and Social Media Group
   – Project Megaphone: A marketing campaign between the Teen Councils
     to raise awareness about Military Youth Programs worldwide via PSAs,
     execution of a service-wide Teen Lock-In during the Month of the
     Military Child, and annual face-to-face joint training (funds permitting).

   – KIT Youth Forum (December 2012)
   – BGCA Keystone Conference (March 2013)
