4. NATIONAL DAIRY PLAN-I
• The NDP is being led by the National Dairy
Development Board (NDDB), a para-statal
organisation created to support and finance the
development of dairy cooperatives in India. NDDB
also lead Operation Flood, the programme that
enabled India to treble its milk production from
1970 to 1996 through extension of the cooperative
model. This aims to double milk production over
the next 15 years to meet surging demand for milk
and dairy products.
• The total outlay on the NDP over the 15 year duration of
the programme is projected to be Rs 17,300 crore

5. NATIONAL DAIRY PLAN-I
• The plan will be implemented in the 14 top
dairy states of India. Eligible organisations
from these states - such as state cooperative
dairy federations, livestock development
agencies and veterinary institutions - will be
able to apply for funding for dairy
development projects.

In phase one, NDP envisages production of 2,500 high genetic merit
and disease free cattle and buffalo bulls of different breeds using
internationally established practices of progeny testing and pedigree
selection and import of 400 Jersey and Holstein Friesian bulls.
