Nathan Hale was an American spy during the Revolutionary War who was born in 1755 in Connecticut, graduated from Yale and became a teacher. He joined the Continental Army and volunteered to spy behind British lines in New York City in 1776, but was caught and hanged at the age of 21, dying for the American cause.
