Democratising UX: how to spread user research education and insights throughout your organisation
With demand for UX insights within organisations outstripping the capacity of UX teams to deliver research, there is a growing need for greater UX knowledge and capability across different functions within businesses. But how do you spread user research beyond the walls of your UX research team? What is the value of everyone having access to UX insights—or having the ability to run research themselves?
On 26th March, we gathered a range of speakers to share their successes, challenges and expert advice around democratising UX. Learn from a variety of different perspectives on the topic, and have the opportunity to share your own experiences with the community.
Lee Duddell educates the audience on 'Common Mistakes Rookies Make When Testing (and How to Overcome Them)’.
Many analyses of developing compelling user experiences (UX) involve a theoretical understanding of key UX principles. However in this webinar, Belatrix´s UX experts Barbara Lipinski and Bruno Vilches, will provide a practical step-by-step guide through the UX process which we use at Belatrix. We will provide a case study of how we applied this process to a product.
What you will takeaway from this webinar:
* The principles and fundamentals underlying UX
* How to practically apply these principles to create a UX process
* Case study and our key learnings from applying the UX process
"What do you do?" is by far the most difficult question that any UX Designer can ever be asked. This presentation hopes to offer a bit more insight into what UX can involve and to share its benefits which can't normally be summed up easily.
Athens Ux meetup No 21, User Interviews, Dimitris NiavisDimitris Niavis
A short introduction to user interviews as a UX research method and a step by step presentation on how to perform this kind of research, via the Seque app case study.
How talking to users early on in the product discovery phase can help us steer away from assumptions-based decision making, uncover user pain points and opportunities.
Understanding Your Audiences | UX ResearchCourtney Clark
Learn about the importance of user experience (UX) and understanding your audiences! We will focus on how to understand what your users want and how they want it, and how to design and build tools and apps that actually get used.
You’ll learn:
- The importance of understanding your audiences
- What we need to know about your audiences to serve them well
- What UX research and tactics you can use at any project stage

Human-Computer Interaction and agile practices in software
engineering are not two separate domains, but rather agile is a work principle that is applied in software development, of which user interface design represents a significant part. Agile projects could require such an approach, which typically iterates on the user interface using low-fidelity prototypes. This paper motivates, presents, and assess capabilities of a software for collaborative sketching of user interfaces on multiple surfaces of interaction, ranging from mobile phones to wall screens. We proposes a Collaborative User Centered Design (CUCD) method for user interface prototyping to supporting cross-surface collaboration by sketching, enabling fast, flexible, intuitive and reusable prototype.
Slides from a workshop on how startups should incorporate design into product development, how to effectively work and communicate with designers, and how to use common design tools such as Sketch, Invision and Principle.

Knowing that a problem exists is one thing. Knowing how to solve it efficiently and cost-effectively is another. Discover the core foundational requirements in UX and Design Thinking that are vital to the success of an application that gets optimal buy-in from your users. If you're looking to optimize data visualizations, dashboards, and reports for effective communication of key business metrics, this will put you on the right track.
User experience (UX) is the basis for all Web activity, and thus underpins everything we do in Web design and development. Successful projects bake UX in from the ground up, from discovery through planning, iteration, testing and deployment. No matter how beautiful our code may be, of what use is it if it’s irrelevant to our users?
Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. Kicked-off the project with a face-to-face workshop to align
on and prioritize customer problems and opportunities.
Prioritized and conducted customer research to
understand the top customer problems and needs. Designed,
developed, and validated Operational Intelligence.

Operational
Intelligence
Understand customer problems; feedback on concepts; user validation
Problem
Operational Intelligence is a cloud-based software solution that
allows customers to manage devices, monitor performance, and
keep software and security up-to-date.
Customers can:
• Know about potential issues with assets before they fail
and increase device up-time and availability
• Know the location of their assets sooner and more reliably
• Reduce wasteful spend on unnecessary equipment

4. Our User Experience Design team wanted to establish
standard metrics to report to Honeywell executives and our
design partners. Our Leadership selected the System
Usability Scale (SUS) metric. Developed the tools, forms,
and shared database that were required in order to execute
this initiative.

System Usability
Scale (SUS)
Developed SUS tools and trained a global design team
Problem
The User Experience Design Director mandated that we would
use SUS as a metric to evaluate usability starting in 2019. There
were no easy, intuitive forms available for a global team.
• Developed the tools – System Usability questionnaire in
English and Chinese to use in-person or remotely
• Trained a global team of 60+
• Launched a team SUS Excel database for central reporting

Problem
These 3 initiatives were key to the printer end-to-end experience:
• Enable customers to be aware of and perceive the value of
printer offerings and solutions
• Enable customers to find solutions that meet their needs
and fit into their current environment
• Enable customers to put human-readable or machine-
scannable marks on objects so they can be tracked,

User Experience Researcher | Design Operations
I was born at Hamilton Air Force Base just north of San Francisco, CA.
After a few moves around the United States, we settled in Lynnwood, WA. I
have a big family with lots of super fun great nieces and nephews. The
best part of having kids around is all the really cool toys I get to test out!
My Bachelor’s degree is in Geography/Cartography and I am constantly
amazed at how much the design elements for making maps apply in the
world of user interface design. During my career, I have always maintained
focus on making products that are easy to use, so I was excited to be a
part of the founding User Interface team at Intermec, becoming part of the
Honeywell User Experience design team in 2013!
I love sports of almost all kinds – playing and watching! My favorites sports
are softball, skiing, and basketball and I am still active in sports. I am also a
long-time 5th Avenue Theater season ticket holder and a huge Disney fan.
