he agreed to _____________ her.
The couple lived very happily together, until one day the god Mercury arrived, carrying a
magnificent box. Mercury wouldn't tell them what the _____________ contained but only that it
had to remain sealed forever. He asked the couple if he could leave the box with them until he
returned from his _____________, and they agreed.
Pandora was very _____________ about the contents of the box but she had

She began to imagine that it contained beautiful gowns or exqui-
site jewellery, or even _____________!
When Pandora knew Epimetheus was out of sight, she would un-

The creatures stung Pandora over and over again and she slammed the lid shut. Epimetheus
ran into the _____________ to see why she was _____________in pain.
Pandora could still hear _____________ calling to her from the box, pleading
with her to be let out.

All that remained in the box was _____________. . It fluttered from the box like a

THE MYTH OF NARCISSUS
Once upon a time there was a beautiful looking boy. He had long, flowing hair; beautiful, bright, blue
eyes and even, white teeth. Many young ladies fell in love with him including the nymph, Echo. Nymphs were
lively spirits who lived near streams and lakes and protected trees in the forest. Echo had upset the queen of
the gods, Hera. As a punishment Hera made Echo unable to speak except to repeat the last three words of
theperson she was talking to.
Poor Echo fell in love with Narcissus but could never tell him how she felt. Narcissus teased her and she ran
away with tears pouring down her face. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, saw what happened and decided to
punish Narcissus. As he came to a pool of water, he saw his reflection and fell in love with the vision he saw …
Poor Narcissus watched his own reflection, but every time he tried to
touch the face of the vision he loved,
the image disappeared. Narcissus stopped eating, lost his beautiful
looks and pined for his love. Eventually he faded away and died.
Aphrodite took pity on him and made a flower grow in his place on
the bank of the lake.
Narcissus flowers can be found to this day growing wherever you
can find water and trees.
NARCISSUS IN THE HISTORY OF ART
As with most myths, this story is an extreme version of modern realities, but lesson is there: be KIND to others,
be OPEN-MINDED to love and affection from others, and remember that LOOKS ARE NOT everything. Do
not become obsessed with your own appearance and focus on your inner self and others,
