Kassie Bode visited three early learning centers - Busy Bodies Early Learning Center, Riverside/Chattaroy ECEAP, and Little Sprouts Daycare. At Busy Bodies, she observed circle time, writing name practice, and outdoor play. She felt the teacher could improve behavior management and monitoring of outdoor time. At Riverside/Chattaroy ECEAP, she read their mission statement. During her visit to Little Sprouts, an infant-only daycare, she was encouraged to interact with and assist feeding the infants.

2. Busy Bodies Early Learning Center
• Ages can be 1 month to 12 years, when I was there, there wasn’t a child older
than 6 or 7.
• Total capacity is 42 children
• My experience: When I arrived they were in circle time singing about colors.
Inside the classroom they had things you would see in a preschool, days of
the week, colors, numbers. The children then sat in a circle and practiced
writing their names that were dotted on a sheet of paper for them. The
teacher who was teaching them could have improved her management skills.

3. Continued.
• She didn’t have a good control of the children. Some of the children were less developed and the
teacher didn’t seem to help them write their names because they were becoming obnoxious. My
presence may have scared her and she might handle those situations better. While I was there a child
fell of one of the structures and hurt his elbow. The situation was handled well I believe. After
assessing him and seeing he was really hurt and that he wasn’t just faking, they called his mom and told
her. His mom did not come pick him up, so about an hour or so later they called him mom again and
insisted that he see a doctor because it was an injury he previously had. I think their outside time could
have been better monitored, or have the children taught rules so these things don’t happen again.

4. Riverside/ Chattaroy Eceap

believe that they can make a difference in the world. Our highly qualified instructional and
support staff focus on reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science while also
attending to physical fitness and the fine arts to ensure our students are well prepared. We
pride ourselves in knowing each student personally and attending to their individual learning
needs.”

5. While I visited
• I entered the classroom and the children were in circle time. They were reading a story. For the most
part the children were well behaved. When they were dismissed they were allowed to go and play in
different stations. I sat next to the reading station to observe. The children were very smart. They really
liked the pictures. To get the children to clean up the teacher played the “clean up” song and the
children recognized they needed to clean up and almost had no trouble. There was on situation where
a child didn’t want to clean up, so he was being loud and the teacher used transition cards to help him
understand what they were doing next, and that seemed to work so that is something they must use a
lot.

6. Little Sprouts Daycare
• Infant only daycare
• Accepts infants 4 weeks to 12 months

7. My visit
• Being in an infant only daycare was very different my other two visits. In this facility
I was allowed and encouraged to interact with the infants because that was part of
their learning process. While I was there I was able to lay down while one of the
babies was doing her tummy time. She laid on the mat and chewed on the toys that
were around her. I sat there and talked to her and assessed her knowledge of the
world. She was very responsive to my voice. I was also able to watch snack time.
Those who were able to sit up were sat at the table inside a little booster seat thing.
The others were fed bottle. I had asked to help feed a bottle while the older ones
were eating and they gladly let me. They appreciated the help.
