Georgina's Speech
Students shouldn't be allowed to have cellphones in
                       class
Introductions

Students work hard at school. The try their best
to succeed in life. What would happen if we
added 1 small piece of technology to this mix ,a
cellphone. We could have cheating and
distractions from work. This wouldn't be a nice
sight. That's why I believe cellphones shouldn't
be allowed in class.
Distractions
Studies show that people 18-24 years of age use about 55
texts a day. Then we look at our younger students who are in
college. They use about 110 a day that's double the amount
the older students use. now think about this; when do these
texts get used? Well some students might not use them at
school however I wouldn't be surprised if some did because
school days are usually long so the time that they spend
talking to their friends during class initially stops then from
paying attention to what could be an important lesson. It may
even affect the people at home when they are needing to do
homework. even if we can't control what people are doing at
home we can always stop what's happening in school.
Cheating
As well ad being a distraction cellphones can be used as a tool
for cheating. Now students can text in class instead of passing
notes which is harder to pick up on.75% of parents believe that
this happens 3% believe that it's there child. One of the parents
even said " I believe my kids' conscience would prevent them
from doing it as they are good deep down.". Now 3 years ago it
was reported in the New Zealand herald that 20% of Auckland
university students cheated on a test and 140 students had been
caught in the act. Teddi Fisherman, the director of the center of
academic Integrity at Clemson University said " the thing about
cheating with new technology is that it's usually the kind of thing
we've seen before but just enabled with technology."
Conclusion

In conclusion I think that cellphones should be
banned from the classroom not necessarily the
whole school but more importantly during
learning time and tests.
