 His name is Julien Christian Lutz and he is Canadian
 Has been active in the industry for almost 20 years
(since 1998)
 His trademark is tweaking the letterbox format.
Instead of just using black bars on the top and bottom
of the frame to frame the image, many videos by X
actually feature the bars opening vertically or
horizontally to reveal the video and closing vertically or
horizontally at the end, like a letter box.
 Has worked with artists including: Drake, Nelly, Kanye
West, Rihanna, The Wanted, Little Mix, Justin Bieber,
Nelly Furtado, Wiz Khalifa, Iggy Azalea, ZAYN, Flo

4. EmilNava
 “If it’s exciting and electric on set, I’m a firm believer in
trying to capture a feeling that you can translate to the
audience on screen.”
 After leaving school at 16, he worked as a chef before
moving onto music videos
 He shot to fame after directing Jessie J’s ‘Do It Like A
Dude’ in 2010
 He has worked with artists including Ed Sheeran,
Calvin Harris, T.I, Zara Larsson, Ne-Yo, Taio Cruz,
Ellie Goulding, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, Juicy J, Dua
Lipa, and Alesso

5. DaveMeyers
 After graduating from Loyola Marymount University,
Meyers worked his way through the studio systems at
Paramount and Fox before filming his first music video
with rap crew The Whoridas.
 Inspired by a chance meeting with director Gus Van
Sant, Dave spent the next few years directing over 200
videos for the music industry’s most popular recording
artists.
 His work has brought dozens of award nominations
and over 11 MTV VMAs
 He has worked with artists including: Missy Elliot,
P!NK, Britney Spears, Mary J Blige, Jay Z, Xzibit,
Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Lil’ Bow Wow, Jermaine Dupri,

6. Syndrome
 Little is actually known about this director despite
them having a well developed portfolio
 They have worked with artists including Eminem, 50
Cent, JLS, Imagine Dragons, Rita Ora, Jason Derulo,
Labrinth, Ke$ha, T-Pain, and The Black Eyed Peas

7. SophieMueller
 Born in London, Mueller studied at the Royal College
of Art for her Masters’ degree in Film and Television
 Her trademark style in most of her videos usually has
a singer or a band inside a dim, isolated room.
 She has directed over 100 music videos
 Mueller has won many awards, including a Grammy
 She has worked with many artists including Annie
Lennox, Sugababes, Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5, Dixie
Chicks, Dolly Parton, Beyoncé, Paloma Faith, Shakira,
Cheryl Cole, Ellie Goulding, Birdy, Selena Gomez, One
Direction, London Grammar, Labrinth, and Sam Smith

8. Melina
Matsoukas
 An American director of music videos, TV shows, and
commercials
 She is a two-time Grammy winner for Rihanna’s ‘We
Found Love’ and Beyoncé's ‘Formation’
 She earned her degree at New York University's Tisch
School of the Arts and completed her graduate work at
the American Film Institute. Her graduate thesis was
in music videos
 She has worked with artists including: Ne Yo,
Ludacris, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Snoop
Dogg, Solange, Ciara, Katy Perry, David Archuleta,
