Curtis Jackson III AKA: 50 cent
By: Josh Langley
Background Information
• Jackson was born on July 6, 1975, in Queens
New York City. He was raised in a broken home
in a rough neighborhood of Jamaica. His single
mother worked as drug dealer and was
murdered when Jackson was 8 years old. After
her death he was raised by his grandparents.
Jackson began selling drugs, and rapping right
after his mom died.
Start of rap career
• 50 cents first contract was with New York hip-hop
scene with Jam Master Jay from Run
D.M.C. Jay was impressed by 50 cents rapping
ability and 50 cent produced a album.
However, the album was never released, due
to contract issues.
Tragedy strikes
• In 2000, 50 cent was a victim of a server
shooting incident that left him with multiply
wounds, and injuries.
Rise above
• After his recovery he began rapping again and
made low budget recordings with Lloyd Banks,
and Tony Yayo other wise known as (G-unit).
From there he began getting noticed, and not
soon after he was signed as a solo artist by
Eminem, and Dr. Dre.
Big Money, and Albums
• After being signed 50 cent started making albums
his first debut release was Get Rich or Die Tryin,
this album reached sales of 9 million units. Soon
after that he dropped plenty more albums; such
as 2005- Get Rich or Die Tryin, 2007- The
Massacre, 2009- Before I Self-Destruct. Survivor
of drugs, violence, and poverty he has lived to tell
his tale with his gritty lyrics, catchy musical
hooks, and rap lyrics that related to his life
experiences, as well as other peoples
experiences. He is truly an influential figure in
hip-hop culture.
My opinion
• 50 cent was a very influential rapper in the
musical scene, relating to people with his
music as well as his life. He went through the
tragic loss of his mother, as well as got shot
down; he could have gave up but instead he
pushed and touched many peoples lives with
his music. Therefor, that is the reason I picked
50 cent his courage to rise above and make
something of himself, inspired not only me,
but others as well.
