Jahmaal Noel Fyffe, also known by his stage name ‘Chip’
started rapping at the age of 14
and built a name for himself at 16 when Wiley brought
him to Tim Westwood’s 1xtra show.
Chip, previously named ‘Chipmunk’ released
his debut album ‘I am Chipmunk’ in 2009 with
hit singles ‘Oopsy Daisy’ and ‘Diamond Rings’ with them
both reaching top 10 in the UK hip hop charts. Chip then
went on to release his follow-up debut album
‘Transition’. This
album was released in April 2011 so that the young artist
could diminish the negative comments from his critics.
He done this by making songs with American hip hop
artists
who were at their prime, artists such as Trey Songz, Keri
Hilson and Chris Brown.
A few days before Chipmunk’s 21st
birthday he decided to abort from his
current label ‘Sony Jive and RCA’ due
to costing more expense than gaining
income.
In January 2012 Chipmunk decided to
abbreviate his name and literally
become a different artist by
abbreviating it to ‘Chip’. From then on
Chip went on to sign for T.I.’s ‘Grand
Hustle Records’
Chip later went on to make a song
with T.I. and Iggy Azalea who is a part
of Grand Hustle.
Chip re-scheduled the release date of
his brand new mixtape ‘London Boy’
which was inspired by those who gave
him the name during his time in
America
