1. This is a photograph of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards taken by Dominique Tarlé, a well-known
French photographer. I chose to analyse this particular image due to its interesting composition.
Although it does not feature any photographic techniques such as leading lines, symmetry or rule of
third it does contain a good depth of field. The photographer has used a candid shot capturing a real
image that is not posed. From looking at a series of Dominique’s other images I can tell that the
musician’s seem very comfortable around her and it as if she is a fly on the wall looking in without
being seen. The objects in the foreground of the table are out of focus and blurry as well as the
curtains and the door in the background, leaving the space in the middle of the image still in focus
which adds a professional effect. Also due to the year this photograph would have been taken, an
old-school film based camera would have been used as digital cameras were not yet invented. This
means that the photographer would have been much more reliant on manual camera settings due
to editing afterwards being limited. However we now have much better editing software and
photographers are being more reliant on editing rather than using the camera settings to create a
good composition.
