Ten terrorists traveled from Karachi, Pakistan to Mumbai, India by boat. They split into five teams and attacked multiple locations using guns and grenades, including the CST railway station, Leopold Café, Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, and Nariman House. Over 160 people were killed and 300 injured before security forces were able to neutralize the threats. The lone surviving attacker, Ajmal Kasab, disclosed that they were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terrorist organization based in Pakistan. This led to evidence that the attacks were planned and directed from within Pakistan.
