Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
2. Muhammad You may be an atheist or an agnostic or you may belong to any of the religious denominations that exist in the world today. You may be a communist or a believer in democracy and freedom. No matter what you are, and no matter what your religious and political beliefs, personal and social habits happen to be— ………YOU STILL MUST KNOW THIS MAN! S. H. Pasha
3. Muhammad He was by far the most remarkable man that ever set foot on this earth. He preached a religion, founded a state, built a nation, laid down a moral code, initiated numberless social and political reforms, established a dynamic and powerful society to practice and represent his teachings, and he revolutionized the worlds of human thought and human action for all time. His name was Muhammad (PBUH) — and he accomplished all these wonders in the unbelievably short span of twenty-three years. S. H. Pasha “He was …without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue. If ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by a right divine It was Mohammad (PBUH), for he had all the power without instruments and without its support. He cared not for dressing of power. The simplicity of his private life was in keeping with his public life." Bosworth Smith
4. Muhammad’s letter to Hiraql (Caesar) Emperor of Romans In the name of Allah, the most Merciful and Compassionate. From Muhammad, the servant and Messenger of Allah, to Hiraql, the Emperor of the Romans. Peace be upon the one that follows righteousness. After this, I invite you to the fold of Islam. Therefore, if you desire peace, accept Islam. If you accept Islam, Allah shall reward you double and if you refuse to do so, the responsibility for the transgression of the entire nation, shall be yours. O people of the Book! Leave aside all matters of difference and dispute, agree on a matter which is equally consistent between you and us; and it is that we should not worship anyone except God and that we should neither associate anyone with Him, nor make anyone else as our god. If you refuse it, you must know that we, in all circumstances, believe in the Oneness of God.
9. Laid the foundations of a society based on Divine guidanceSay: “Allah's guidance, is the true guidance. We are commanded to submit as Muslims to the Lord of all the worlds.” (al-An'am: 71) “He who originates creation and then regenerates it and provides for you from out of heaven and earth. Is there another god besides Allah? Say: "Bring your proof if you are being truthful.” (an-Naml: 64)
10. Before Muhammad….. We were covered in darkness…… PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ALLAH BE UPON HIM

12. What the Quran says: "And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it. And fear Allah: truly Allah is severe in punishment. " [59:7] “The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, is that they say: 'We hear and we obey'. It is such as these who will attain success.” [24: 51] "No, by your Lord, they do not believe until they submit to your adjudication in all disputes between them, then they do not find themselves oppressed with your decisions and they completely submit." [4:65] It is not befitting for a believing man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger, to have any option about their decision.“ [33:36]
13. “his forehead was wide, skin was soft, eyes were black, the hair of his eye lashes was profuse, when he smiled his teeth shone like a light, his lips were beautifully shaped, his beard was thick, his neck was neither long nor short” “… ..generous, beneficial, compassionate, forgiving, and brave” “as if the brightness of the sun had shone from his blessed face” “when he walked it seemed as if he was descending to a lower place” “….possessed a character of exquisite beauty and charm….” “ he had a body formed in perfection and uniqueness” Muhammad “..… between his shoulders was the seal of prophecy….”
14. “…great riches would come to him, and yet he lived in a state of poverty…fire would not be lit in his house for many days….” “…….he wiped the blood from his face and said: O Allah! forgive my people for they do not know” “he busied himself with the worship of Allah and loved doing deeds that would please Allah” “he slept on a mat of hay and a pillow filled with course fibers.” “his sittings were of knowledge, perseverance, patience, modesty, and trust” “he led small numbers into battles against thousands, and yet he would decisively defeat them” Muhammad “..…the greatest man that ever lived….”
15. Muhammad Jafer(RA), a companion of the Prophet at the court of a Christian King in Abyssinia, said: “Your majesty! We were ignorant people, worshipping idols, eating carrion, oppressing neighbours, brother fighting brother, the strong dominating the weak, when amidst us was raised a man (Muhammad) whose nobility, integrity and trustworthiness were already well-known” “He called us to worship God alone... he commanded us to speak the truth, to honor our promises, to be kind to our relations, to be helpful to our neighbours, to cease all forbidden acts, to abstain from bloodshed, to avoid obscenities and false witness….” "Circumstances changed, but the prophet of God did not. In victory or in defeat, in power or in adversity, in affluence or in indigence, he is the same man, disclosed the same character.” Prof K.S Ramakrishna Rao; Mohammed The Prophet
36. Confusion and restlessnessFollowing his Sunnah can solve all our problems and once again set us on the right course We need Muhammad’s guidance
37. Single out your Lord with all worship – He who created you and all those who came before you, that you may be of those who seek to avoid Allah’s punishment and anger, those whom Allah is pleased with. He who has made the earth a resting place for you, and has made the sky a canopy, and Who sends down rain from the clouds, and Who brought out with crops and fruits from the earth as provision for you. So do not set up rivals for Allah in your worship when you know that there is no Lord besides Him” al-Baqarah: 21-22
