Based on a certain domain area, undertake a thorough research activity into both the domain, identifying
the pain points associated to the area from a user perspective. Continue extensive research, insight,
opportunities and user perspective in the chosen direction. This research will then be used to not only
validate concept possibilities, but to clearly identify a principle design objective within that domain area.
Based on this research activity and informed by it, undertake a robust concept activity that allows you to
consider possible product/concept solutions that will energize and significantly develop the domain area.
You should take into account technological opportunities, user needs/aspirations and market drivers.
project
brief
product
stretch activity
Based on a domain area of your choice, undertake appropriate research to gain
a thorough understanding of it. Identify 2 existing manufacturers and based on
your area of research choose one to undertake a product stretch activity on an
existing product range they produce
For this project I chose to use Nike as an existing manufacturer,
and the Nike Free run range as the existing product.
project
brief
Biomechanical studies show that allowing your feet the full range
of its natural movement builds strength and reduces injury. In
answer to the demand of would-be barefoot runners worried about
protecting their feet from the elements, Nike created an outsole with
deeply segmented grooves that mimic the natural pressure patterns
of a barefoot landing. The forefoot area allows a greater flex of the
toes for a natural grip that creates stability and pinpoint turns
research
The concept was taken into a more intense sketching
activity by showing the developed shape and form,
indicating the diverse line details. It was understood
at this point that the NIKE logo was very effective
on the sketches and was important to apply it in the
correct manner with the correct colour
The thumbnail sketching activity was done which was
very effective and useful, it provided a development
of the footwear shape and detail. This allowed the
concept to be driven into an in-depth development
activity. The different line weights indicate significant
parts of the design allowing for a better understanding
on how the concept could be observed. Colouration
of the swoosh was done due to NIKE’s philosophy of
design as it differs in each and every product.
The sketching activity was taken further with the
use of different background swatches and rendering
methods.
The use of a navy blue background
worked very well, quickly using a
white brush to draw out the outline
allowed to display the form and
realness of the shoe.The highlights
and shadows were the main feature
of this exercise.
futures
project
Your aim is to explore product possibilities before entering into a detailed and
thorough concept activity that looks to generate a highly credible and persuasive
future concept that might exist within your chosen area – the corporate identity
should be referenced from one of the companies you researched last semester.
For this project, NikeiD was chosen as the future manufacturing company and how the
company and their products would deliver in the future with the aid of future technologies
and materials.
project
brief
NIKEiD is a service provided by Nike allowing customers to
customize clothing purchased from Nike. The customer becomes
the designer as they change and add a personal look and feel to a
selected item.
research
Four potential ideas were selected.
It allowed for the activity to be
narrowed down, enabling the
exercise to be more intense.
However this made the concept
activity easier as it allowed to focus
on selected areas, rather than a
variety.
MUBARAK MOOSA //PORTFOLIO
A Thumbnail sketching activity
was done to develop the form and
styling of the concept.The different
styles were drawn using a variety of
line weights, to signify the different
segments in the shoe.This was
very constructive, providing a more
in depth outcome for the possible
future concept.
As NIKEiD is a service of
customisation.This activity
shows colouration and styling
of two different forms, allowing
to demonstrate the behaviour of
customisation on two different styles
in different elevations.
