Andrew Picken is the Vice Chair of the SCC Health and Wellbeing Forum and a panel member for the RSPH Workplace Award. He presented on the Move More initiative in Sheffield which aims to make Sheffield the most active city in the UK by 2020. Move More is a vision rather than an organized group and works with partners like NCSEM and Graves, Concord, and Thorncliffe. Move More campaigns have included a workplace challenge and Move More Month that saw over 8 million move more minutes logged against a 10 million target. This is an infographic we put out across our social media channels showing various conditions that recent has shown strength training to have beneficial effects for. Not only is strength training an effective treatment for a lot of these conditions but it’s also an effective method of prevention.
Kas is going to talk about the most prominent conditions with the largest health care costs and then I’m going to go through the current guidelines and a few of the strength training techniques that are being used clinically at the moment.
This year we clocked up 8.3 millions minutes, so we are heading the in right direction.
We had more schools and more organisations involved too.
