Hi, my name is Muhammad Raul.
Today I would like to tell you a story about Mousedeer.
The title is Mousedeer and the Scarecrow
The story goes like this.
nce upon a time, in a forest, Mousedeer was looking for food. The forest was
barren. Many other animals had fled because grass, fruits and leaves were
scarce.
After a long time, he couldn’t find any fresh leaves to eat because the forest
didn’t have many trees anymore. It is because humans had cut down trees and
other vegetations of the forest to have pieces of land for plantation.
Then in the late afternoon finally he came to a piece of land
which was planted with cucumbers. Human planted them for
them to sell. The farmer who had the land was not around. He
already went home to his village nearby.
Mousedeeer was happy because he found food. He thought,
“Wow, fresh cucumbers. The farmer was not here. What a lucky
day for me. Today I will not be hungry and sleep with my
stomach full.”
So, he ate as many cucumbers as he could eat and left
after he was full. He was so happy.
The next day, then the farmer came to see his plants, he
was furious. “What? Something had eaten my
cucumbers. It came after I went home I think. I have to
keep my eyes on my plants but unfortunately I cannot be
here all the time.”
He thought hard to find a good solution. Then he had an idea.
“Aha! Why don’t I make a scarecrow. I think it will scare
animals away.”
Then he began to make a scarecrow that resembled him. He put
on his used clothes to make it look like a human.
The next day, Mousedeer came again to the cucumber
plantations to eat cucumbers.
He was shocked that he saw a figure in the cucumber
field. At first he was afraid and hid when he saw the
scarecrow. He thought it had been the farmer. He hid
behind a bush. He watched it for some time.
He said to himself, “If he moves, I will run as fast as I can.”
The figure of course would not move. Finally he knew it was a
scarecrow.
He came to it and kicked it so hard that it fell down. He laughed
and yelled at it, “You are not human. I am not afraid of you!
Hahaha!”.
He then enjoyed the cucumbers in the field.
The following day, the farmer saw what happened to his
scarecrow
“How could it fall? The animal who ate my cucumbers must
have kicked it.”
The farmer decided to put on some sticky liquid on it. The
liquid was so sticky that animals which touched it would be
stuck. He thought that the animal who kicked it the day before
would be stuck if it kicked the scarecrow.
Two days later, Mousedeer came again when he couldn’t find any
food in the forest. At first he ignored the sticky scarecrow because
he knew it was not a human. He went on eating the cucumbers.
When he had enough, he kicked the scarecrow just for fun.
Unfortunately his right front foot was stuck on the scarecrow.
He yelled, “Let me go!” But his foot kept being stuck. Then he
kicked again using his other front foot. Again it stuck. He kicked
again and again. Finally all his feet were stuck on the scarecrow..
Poor Mousedeer!
All he wanted was food for his small stomach. Now he was stuck
and could not go anywhere. He could not go to his beloved forest
and friends.
When he felt he was helpless, he said to himself, “Humans have
cleared the trees in our forest and now one of them will have me
prisoner. What horrible creatures, humans are.”
Ladies and gentlemen, please remember. The nature belongs to all
creatures of God. If you cut down trees in the forest. The animals
will suffer.
That is my story. I hope we share our care for nature.
See you later.
