Children all over the world recite Mother Goose rhymes but don't know their origin. In 1697, Charles Perrault published a collection of fairy tales called "Tales of My Mother Goose," introducing the character Mother Goose. The rhymes contain snippets of history, old customs, and beliefs - for example, Humpty Dumpty may have been based on King Richard III.
