Prypiat, Ukraine was once home to 50,000 people who worked at the nearby Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In 1986, a reactor malfunction caused an evacuation and since then the abandoned city has deteriorated, with trees and plants overtaking empty buildings. The Sedlec Ossuary in the Czech Republic is decorated with the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people arranged artistically. The Aokigahara Forest in Japan is a site where over 1,500 people have committed suicide since the 1950s, with their remains and hanging ropes still scattered throughout the dense woods.
