The consumers rely on those in charge of businesses to provide supplies that they cannot go out and get themselves without the market having it available. This increases the availability of products that can be sold thus making everything easily accessible to those who have the money to pay for it.
In japan when the sugarcane market crashed that left many sugarcane farmers in trouble with no good source of income that they can use to provide for themselves, this lead to an increase of those in poverty that required the Japanese government to step in and to set up relief efforts. They set up a trade system of brown sugar so in the long run they can provide for themselves and not have to rely on the government. The Japanese government established trade with the Philippines islands so that way they can establish a good connection with them, making the trade work for both sides so in the end both sides benefitted from the arrangement, not just one side.
Ethnic consumer guides are available to consumers to see how ethical a product that tey are buying is. It also informs the buyer about the company responsible for the product so they can decide if they are ethical or not. This allows the option of free choice to expand further since the people will now know if something is good or if it is bad, allowing them to make choices based on their preferences and what they might support.
There are plenty tools for encountering people that are explained in this reading that have to deal with the market. First one being are my needs and the needs of the other being met? Then it goes am I connected with others directly? Then it goes am I taking what I need? The next one is are there ways I can give back to help the others needs? Then the next one is are there other ways that I can share? Then the more moral ones go as are the animals being treated humanely? Then are the environmental impacts of the products addressed? "Four Horsemen" describes the ways in which our world is slowly folding on itself. It categorizes the four horsemen as a wrongful banking system, escalating violence, an abundance of poverty, and deletion of the world's resources. All these topics are the signs that we have truly doomed ourselves as a nation and as a planet. The underlying kingpin here is money. Everyone, including the government, lives, and works to earn and spend money. There are a variety of different paths to obtain that currency and the banks are at the heart, banks that create this money out of thin air. The film starts by speaking of empires and power. Nations want to be in positions to be on top as a means of security and credibility. Top nations control our world and those who are not, strive to become one. From historic times to now, people and groups want to become the most powerful, and when they do, they obtain all the resources they can do benefit their empires and the leaders become wealthy and untouchable. There is usually one common factor within one's rise to power, and that is money. It earns resources and credibility which makes others become submissive to you. We are supposed to be living within a free market system where everyone has a fair piece of the pie, but that is rarely true today. The way the banks function and government spending only amasses debt that will in turn be paid by the American people. Some of these people live in poverty, meaning they cannot even live anymore. People are expected to pay more for items as the price level rises while many incomes are not following suit. This system leaves those who are poor behind making it nearly impossible for them to catch up. As stated before, government spending can leave a budget deficit that needs to be repaid. Most of these expenditures, however, are on war and violence. International affairs, terrorism, and national crime are all credible threats, and a lot of money goes into limiting it. The resources used to support these organization makes them more powerful and it has transitioned peacekeeping into utter force and violence. Here at home and abroad, war rages daily. From small to large scale conflict is being solved in horrific ways and many innocent people are dying along the way. At the root of all of it, is money and power. A lot of this is also politically inclined. We live in a society in which people are paid just to influence politicians to pass acts that will in turn create more money for people who already have a lot of it. Wealth drives our nation, without it, one is just swept under the carpet. People have worked way too hard to obtain wealth while those in control can create it like none other. This exponential growth has depleted Earth's resources and we are running out fast. With no resources, what is there to gain anymore. The Four Horsemen are the warning signs that our systems are heavily flawed and need to be chan.

Course Perspectives
The five course perspectives for our class and all aspects of our lives are mutual interdependence, interconnectedness, interrelatedness, reciprocity, and transactions. All five of these perspectives are connected and very important to understanding life.
Without each of these perspectives, volunteering and servant leadership would not mean very much.
Mutual interdependence means that all people, animals, communities, and everything else in life rely on each other to survive. Each person or thing provides something that someone else can not. For example, everyone is interdependent on farmers to produce enough food so that we can eat whenever we want to. On the other hand, the farmer is interdependent on people in communities to go to the grocery store and buy the food that was produced. This cycle continues each and everyday of our lives. It does not just happen in the United States, it happens all over the world. There are some foods that are better grown in other regions of the world. In this case we are interdependent on those regions and those farmers to satisfy our needs of certain foods. As I was reading my management and organizational behavior text book, I came across the definition of globalization. The definition of globalization is the worldwide interdependence of resource flows, product markets, and business competition. We are globally interdependent upon each other. If something was missing we would not lead the same lives that we do today. I think the definition of globalization illustrates just how important the factory in the movie, Gung Ho was to the town. Without the factory, the people would not be able to make money which in turn would cause the people not to be able to eat. The factory was interdependent upon the town. Without the town there would be no place to set up a factory and have workers work in the factory. If either part had been missing, then the town people would have starved and there would have been no cars produced.
Interconnectedness is a relationship between two or more things. We are all humans. When a tragedy occurs, we all feel the pain and suffering. An example of this would be the recent tsunami. We have been connected to these people that we do not even know through the news reports. As a culture, we have been compelled to raise money and collect supplies for these people. The interconnectedness between everyone involved in this tragedy is very powerful. Another example occurred in the movie Gung Ho. In the movie, there were goals set out by the town’s people and by the factory. The town’s people had a goal to make money. The factory had a goal to produce cars. By pairing the two up, there was a relationship in which both could be satisfied. R1: Max Neef was very opinionated on how the whole economic system here in the world should behave and he also knew the flaws that make our system less great than what it could be. In the interview he described how the impoverished people held better values than those who were of a higher social status. His knowledge of poverty comes from the fact that he has lived amoung those who are poor, thus making him very knowledgeable on the subject and making the interview more informative to those who view it. Max Neef claims that the economic system here in the world is not effective and if it is to continue onto the future that there are changes that need to occur to secure it.
There is a huge difference in the words of knowledge and understanding. Knowledge can be acquired by anyone who can read about a certain subject and learn all the statistics behind it. Like for example going off poverty the economic experts know that it exists since they are well informed on all of it like how many people are living in poverty and they pretty much single story them by only seeing them as the poverty class, since they only know the knowledge that labels them. Understanding is completely different to the knowledge aspect. With understanding poverty the person is well informed of the issue, but unlike with just knowledge they also understand what it feels like to be in poverty. They understand what it is like to live with those who are poor by living where they live, eating what they eat, and participating in their activities to get a real feel of poverty.
Max Neef mentions about how the values and principles of those in poverty and those not in poverty differ from each other. For example those in poverty have different values when it comes to what they own such as they may share with others that are in their position so that way more can benefit from something rather than people of higher class who have the same possession but only utilize it for themselves. He also mentions how the people in poverty tend to more creative than those who aren’t due to that being more of an essential to survival. People in poverty, as mentioned by Max, also do not notice those out of poverty as people would expect. This can go hand in hand with how greed is the most dominate value in today’s society. This is typically seen as the lower on the social economic scale you are, the more greedy you tend to be. This as mentioned by Neef is completely false, it is rather the opposite way saying that people higher on the social ladder are way more greedy and poor people are more likely to be more generous to help out others.\
