The novel by Haddon presents the aspects of life as one grows from one stage to the other. It has displayed the various challenging factors that individuals face in the society and the solutions to the challenges (Haddon, 2007). The presentation of the characters, the roles they play are as per what individuals face in the current world. Based on the main character Christopher, themes are well organized explaining the key aspects of life. Analyzing the key themes of the novel will bring a better reflection of the incidences in the story and current situation in the day-to-day activities of the human generation.
· Love and Relationships: Love and relationships is depicted as a complicated matter in the novel because it does not seem to work out.
· Truth and Trust: Truth is a basic principle that maintains a positive association between people. Even though it can hurt at some point but it helps in enhancing trust. Christopher developed fear and lost trust in his father after he realised that he had lied about his mother ( ...

· Love and Relationships: Love and relationships is depicted as
3. a complicated matter in the novel because it does not seem to
work out.
· Truth and Trust: Truth is a basic principle that maintains a
positive association between people. Even though it can hurt at
some point but it helps in enhancing trust. Christopher
developed fear and lost trust in his father after he realised that
he had lied about his mother (Haddon, 2007).
· Language and Communication: Even though the novel has not
stated that Christopher has autism but from how his characters
as displayed it can be concluded that he has the disorder. His
language is straight forward and he does not understand some
non-verbal aspects of communication like different facial
expressions.

Speech, Language and Communication Skills for Young
Children with Severe Autism Spectrum Disorders: What Do
Educators Need to Know? Retrieved from
https://eric.ed.gov/?id=EJ955538
The article recognises the fact that one out of 110 children is
diagnosed with the disorder of autism (Min|Lee & Wah, 2011).
It addresses the importance of language and communication
skills among those children with the disorder. It outlines how
the children could be taught and improve n their skills in
communication. I choose this article because it outlines some of
the efforts made by Christopher’s’ friend Siobhan in helping
him improve in his communication skills.

This article explains the essential role played by truth when
4. individuals exchange ideas. Dishonesty damages the social
relationship of individual and it also ruins trust (Iñiguez,
Govezensky, Dunbar, Kaski, & Barrio, 2014). The article uses
agent based model to determine the degree of distortion caused
by prosocial and antisocial lies. My reason for selecting the
article is because it has a detailed information concerning truth
and trust which is one of the aspects in my thesis.
Correia, J. (2015, April 1). Underlying Deception in Parent-
Child Relationships. Retrieved from

The article explains the role lying plays in a parent-child
relationship. It analyses lying based on ideological, practical
and justifiable context (Correia, 2015). It concludes that lying
shapes a child-parent relationship. I select the article because it
enlightens the idea of Christopher’s father where he was lying
about his mother to protect his son.
Schmuck, D. (2013). Single parenting: fewer negative effects of
children's behaviors than claimed. Modern Psychological
Studies, 18(2), 12.
The article attempts to clarify the effects of single parenting on
children. It indicates that single parenting has a negative effect
but not as much as previous studies indicated (Schmuck, 2013).
This is a result when factors like separation and divorce are
controlled. I have chosen the article because it supports the
theme of love and relationships between a parent and a child
which is part of my thesis.

The article explains about the communication among children
with autism. It enlightens the communication challenges faced
by those with the disorder (NIH,2018). Teaching
communication skills is important to such children. I select the
article because it creates an understanding of the theme of
language and communication in the main character Christopher.

Thesis for Peer Review

I. Introduction
A. We all have to face our fears, but some of us have
a more difficult time doing so. Some people’s minds are like a
DVD player that replays the things we don’t like about a certain
object or person and we get scared to face that fear.
B. We can do anything we set our minds to when we
have a plan. Our plans can be logical, mathematical or
directional
C. In The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-
Time, Christopher Boone faces his fears as he works to solve a
mystery in his town. The author uses internal monologue, first-
person view and stream of consciousness as Christopher
demonstrates to the world that he can accomplish more than
what is expected of him.
II. Body
A. Facing fears to solve a mystery
1. “Because it was a Good Day I decided that I
would try and find out who killed Wellington because a Good
Day is a day for projects and planning things” (Haddon, 2003)
a. Siobhan said he should write a book about anything he
wants – so he wants to write a mystery book about Wellington
b. Christopher doesn’t talk to people he doesn’t know, but if
he wants to be a good detective, he will have to so he can gather
his clues and solve the mystery.
c. Christopher wants to solve the mystery so Mrs. Shears
won’t be sad anymore.
2. Wellington isn’t the only mystery that
Christopher solves.
a. Why are Mrs. Shears and Father no longer friends?
b. Where did Mr. Shears go and why does Father say he is
evil? Did he kill Wellington?
B. Internal Monologue
7. 1. Christopher tries to figure out the people around
him and how he uses logic, math and his drawings to figure out
the mystery
a. During the internal monologue moments in the
book, we also get to know Christopher’s fears, insecurities and
disability
b. Internal Monologue shows what is really going
underneath the surface
c. Christopher speaks from his internal thoughts
often and doesn’t know how to see the world or the situations
around him through any other view but his own.
C. First-person view
1. Christopher tells his story from his perspective
and only no one else’s.
a. When he sees a Red car on the way to school it is
a good day, but if he sees a Yellow car then it is a bad day.
b. Christopher’s first-person view gives the reader
insight on how he views the world and how much he struggles
with certain thing that “normal” people may not struggle with
c. Christopher’s first-person view and his internal
monologue can run together sometimes without direction
D. Stream of Consciousness
1. Christopher’s thoughts often run together in a
run-on sentence and do not follow proper grammar.
a. These thoughts are often prompted when he is
trying to remember something – he collects his DVD player
memory
b. When Christopher goes into Stream of
Consciousness narrative, his honesty comes out and we see
Christopher’s true thoughts and this keeps the reader engaged.
c. Christopher’s stream of consciousness does not
stop him from solving the mystery he set out to solve and also
the one he didn’t know he was would solve.
III. Conclusion
8. A. Christopher Boone starts out as being afraid of a
lot of things, but he doesn’t let the limitations he has stop him
from solving the murder of Wellington. As Christopher collects
his clues, he learns things about the mystery of his own life
along the way as well.
