This article aimed at sharing some light and to clarify the confusion clouded the Academic or University cycle. Please take a look at this article, it will help you see and understand the differences in between the two.
1. Not to be confused with honours degree. The honoris causa: An honorary degree is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived all of the usual requirements. It is also known by the Latin phrases honoris causa ("for the sake of the honour") or ad honorem ("to the honour").
The degree is typically a doctorate or, less commonly, a master's degree, and may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution [1] or no previous postsecondary education. An example of identifying a recipient of this award is as follows: Doctorate in Business Administration (Hon. Causa). The degree is often conferred as a way of honouring a distinguished visitor's contributions to a specific field or to society in general.[2] It is sometimes recommended that such degrees be listed in one's curriculum vitae (CV) as an award, and not in the education section.[3] With regard to the use of this honorific, the policies of institutions of higher education generally ask that recipients "refrain from adopting the misleading title"[4] and that a recipient of an honorary doctorate should restrict the use of the title "Dr" before their name to any engagement with the institution of higher education in question and not within the broader community.[5]

A
thesis
, or
dissertation
[note 1]
(abbreviated diss.),
[2]
is a document submitted in support of candidature for an
academic degree
or professional qualification presenting the author's research and findings.
[3]
In some contexts, the word "thesis" or a cognate is used for part of a
bachelor's
or
master's
course, while "dissertation" is normally applied to a doctorate. This is the typical arrangement in American English. In other contexts, such as within most institutions of the
United Kingdom
and
Republic of Ireland
, the reverse is true.
[4]
The term
graduate thesis
is sometimes used to refer to both master's theses and doctoral dissertations.
[5]
The required complexity or quality of research of a thesis or dissertation can vary by country, university, or program, and the required minimum study period may thus vary significantly in duration.
The word "dissertation" can at times be used to describe a
treatise
without relation to obtaining an academic degree. The term "thesis" is also used to refer to the general claim of an essay or similar work.

The term "thesis" comes from the Greek θέσις, meaning "something put forth", and refers to an intellectual
proposition
. "Dissertation" comes from the
Latin
dissertātiō
, meaning "discussion".
Aristotle
was the first philosopher to define the term thesis.
"A 'thesis' is a supposition of some eminent philosopher that conflicts with the general opinion...for to take notice when any ordinary person expresses views contrary to men's usual opinions would be silly".
[6]
For Aristotle, a thesis would therefore be a supposition that is stated in contradiction with general opinion or express disagreement with other philosophers (104b33-35). A supposition is a statement or opinion that may or may not be true depending on the evidence and/or proof that is offered (152b32). The purpose of the dissertation is thus to out ...

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Modern practices in the award of honorary doctorates
1. Modern practices in the award
of Honorary Doctorates
www.uosf-edu.org
Honorary degrees are usually awarded at regular graduation ceremonies,
at which the recipients are often invited to make a speech of acceptance
before the assembled faculty and graduates – an event which often forms
the highlight of the ceremony. Generally, universities nominate several
persons each year for honorary degrees; these nominees usually go
through several committees before receiving approval. Those who are
nominated are generally not told until a formal approval and invitation
2. are made; often it is perceived that the system is shrouded in secrecy,
and occasionally seen as political and controversial.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
The term honorary degree is a slight misnomer: honoris causa degrees,
being awarded by a university under the terms of its charter, may be
considered to have technically the same standing, and to grant the same
privileges and style of address as their substantive counterparts, except
where explicitly stated to the contrary. Recipients of honorary degrees
typically wear the same academic dress as recipients of substantive
degrees, although there are a few exceptions: honorary graduates at the
University of Cambridge wear the appropriate full-dress gown but not
the hood, and those at the University of St Andrews wear a black
cassock instead of the usual full-dress gown.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
An ad eundem or jure officii degree is sometimes considered honorary,
although they are only conferred on an individual who has already
achieved a comparable qualification at another university or by attaining
an office requiring the appropriate level of scholarship. Under certain
circumstances, a degree may be conferred on an individual for both the
nature of the office they hold and the completion of a dissertation. The
"dissertation et jure dignitatis" is considered to be a full academic
degree.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
3. Although higher doctorates such as DSc, DLitt, etc., are often awarded
honoris causa, in many countries (notably England and Scotland,
Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand) it is possible formally to earn such
a degree. This typically involves the submission of a portfolio of peer-
refereed research, usually undertaken over a number of years, which has
made a substantial contribution to the academic field in question. The
university will appoint a panel of examiners who will consider the case
and prepare a report recommending whether or not the degree be
awarded.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
Some universities, seeking to differentiate between substantive and
honorary doctorates, have a degree (often DUniv, or Doctor of the
University) which is used for these purposes, with the other higher
doctorates reserved for formally examined academic scholarship.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
The Archbishop of Canterbury has the authority to award degrees. These
"Lambeth degrees" are sometimes, erroneously, thought to be honorary;
however, the archbishops have for many centuries had the legal
authority (originally as the representatives of the Pope, later confirmed
by a 1533 Act of Henry VIII), to award degrees and regularly do so to
people who have either passed an examination or are deemed to have
satisfied the appropriate requirements.
www.honorarydoctorate2.com
4. Between the two extremes of honoring celebrities and formally assessing
a portfolio of research, some universities use honorary degrees to
recognize achievements of intellectual rigor comparable to an earned
degree. Some institutes of higher education do not confer honorary
degrees as a matter of policy. Some learned societies award honorary
fellowships in the same way as honorary degrees are awarded by
universities, for similar reasons.
