"Redaktur yang Tertukar": Ketika Media Online Menjual Berita via Media Sosial dyama khazim Setyadi
Abstract
In the midst of the use of social media for marketing communications activities, media are no less fierce to
communicate their news product through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. This paper
investigates how an online media manages its marketing communication to 'sell' the news through social
media. Using a qualitative case study method with Viva.co.id as an object, this research found that the news
marketing communication strategy through social media has changed the constellation of management in
media organization as well as the mindset of managers in managing media marketing communication. First,
the position of editors that usually (or at least attempted to) free from marketing (business) interests bias in
moving their professional wheel, in the context of marketing communication management through social
media is incorporated into the marketing division. Second, the manager also interprets the news as a
product that should have a selling value, so that the process and the editorial policy should also pay
attention to the implications of marketing. With reflective analysis, this research is useful as a mirror to look
at and reflect the conditions and developments of media industry today in the flood of communication
activities via social media and the growth of online-based media.

Di tengah maraknya penggunaan media sosial untuk aktivitas komunikasi pemasaran, media pun tak kalah
sengitnya mengomunikasikan produk-produk beritanya melalui media sosial seperti Facebook, Twitter dan
Youtube. Tulisan ini menelusuri bagaimana sebuah media online mengelola komunikasi pemasarannya
untuk ‘menjual’ berita melalui media sosial. Menggunakan metode studi kasus kualitatif dengan obyek riset
Viva.co.id, riset ini menemukan bahwa strategi komunikasi pemasaran berita melalui media sosial telah
mengubah konstelasi manajemen dalam organisasi media serta mindset pengelola dalam mengelola
komunikasi pemasaran media. Pertama, posisi redaksi yang biasanya (atau setidaknya diupayakan) steril
dari bias kepentingan pemasaran (bisnis) dalam menggerakkan roda profesionalnya, dalam konteks
manajemen komunikasi pemasaran melalui media sosial justru disatukan dalam divisi pemasaran. Kedua,
pengelola juga memaknai berita sebagai produk yang harus memiliki nilai jual, sehingga proses dan
kebijakan redaksional harus memerhatikan pula implikasi pemasarannya. Disertai analisis reflektif, riset ini
bermanfaat sebagai cermin untuk melihat dan merefleksi kondisi dan perkembangan permediaan dewasa
ini di tengah meruahnya aktivitas komunikasi melalui media sosial dan tumbuh-suburnya media-media
berbasis online.
