Mission in Practice 2005 Mission in Practice 2005
False Dichotomy of Mission Those who see evangelism (restoring people's relationship with God) as spiritual work, while social action /transformation (restoring just economic, social, and political relationships among people) not. Those who see loving God as spiritual, while loving neighbours is material. (Myers, B.L 1999)
“ Evangelism is mission but mission is not merely evangelism” (Moltmann 1977).
“ Christology determines missiology, and missiology determines ecclesiology.…” Hirsch and Frost (2003)
What values of the kingdom are we demonstrating? What are we demonstrating to the individual, to the world? Are we demonstrating authentic love, grace, and mercy? Offering pictures of wholeness, fullness of life, reconciliation?
Are we standing up in terms of justice, righteousness for the whosoever? Are we lifting up the name of Jesus? Pointing people beyond what we do to Jesus or to a poor parody, a caricature that people see in a weak insipid, predictable church? Where is God’s finger in what we do?
Marking Criteria Reading Understanding   Reflection   Evaluation   Organisation   Written expression
‘ no human quality is more intelligent, honest and useful than willingness to ask when you don’t know. We should be less afraid of it’
