Key points:
 EurekaBuild2 is a EUREKA Umbrella dedicated to generating and
supporting projects in the area of construction and new materials.
 EurekaBuild2 is strategically aimed at supporting the competitiveness
of the sector through promotion and support of generation of “market-
driven” co-operative Research and Technological Development (RTD)
projects.
 EurekaBuild2 take into account the European Construction Technology
Platform (ECTP) network of more than 20 National Construction
Technology Platforms (NTPs).

Added value of EurekaBuild2:
 Importance of the construction sector for the economy of the European
countries.
 New structure for the Umbrella: more flexible, more active, more
agile.
 Support the competitiveness of the sector through promotion.
 Support the generation of "market-driven" co-operative Research and
Technological Development (RTD) projects.
 EurekaBuild2 cooperates very closely with other European initiatives,
such as the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP), the
Energy Efficient Buildings Association (E2BA), the ERA-NET Eracobuild.
 Eureka projects have proved themselves as the most appropriate
instrument for SMEs.

 10.4% of GDP and 49.2% of Gross Fixed Capital Formation (FIEC, 2008)

The construction sector contributes one of the largest shares of wealth to
Europe's Business economy.
 80% of Europe’s citizens live in cities
 30% of industrial employment, 7.6% of total employment (16.3 million operatives)
 3 million enterprises (95% SMEs with <20 workers, local markets, low innovative)
 Construction sector is a major contributor to exports, reported as winning more
than 50% of major international construction contracts
