This proposal for Adeline Street and the Ashby BART Station in South Berkeley, California was created by graduate students in the University of California Berkeley's Department of City and Regional Planning as part of the Transportation Planning Studio during the spring semester of 2010. Our project’s goal was to redesign Adeline to make the neighborhood easier to visit and more inviting to linger.
This map shows trails and paths around Loughborough, Leicestershire. It is based on Ordnance Survey data and is intended for recreational use only. Users hike trails at their own risk as routes may not always be passable, particularly during wet weather. The mapmaker accepts no liability for errors or omissions.
Rail Europe created an experience map to understand customers' rail travel planning and booking journey. The map outlines the stages from research to post-travel, identifying touchpoints, customer needs, and opportunities to improve. It aims to help people plan trips over time, visualize their itinerary, get help when needed, and deal with unexpected changes. The map provides a framework to orchestrate touchpoints and better serve customers throughout their experience.
The document discusses plans to transform Malmø, Sweden by creating a network of blue-green corridors throughout the city. This "blue-green web" would use vegetation and soil to cleanse rainwater before it enters the ocean. It would strategically connect parks and other green spaces to better manage increasing urban runoff in a sustainable way. Most importantly, the blue-green web is intended to create new social experiences for residents by connecting urban public spaces in an easy to navigate structure that incorporates unexpected areas for interaction.

It outlines the registration process, including flying the Turkish courtesy flag and Q flag when entering TRNC waters and obtaining a 90-day tourist visa upon arrival. Visitors are advised not to cruise from the TRNC to the Republic of Cyprus at this time.

The Australian Centre for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (ACEAS) aims to support integration and synthesis of ecosystem data across disciplines and institutions in Australia. It provides funding for scientists and managers to collaborate on difficult ecosystem problems. Working groups of up to 15 people can receive up to $50,000, and targeted workshops up to $30,000. It also funds sabbatical fellows to work with groups. The goal is to facilitate data sharing and synthesis to advance ecosystem knowledge and inform natural resource management.
Zhongshan City Qiankang Lighting Techno provides lighting products and quotes various LED lighting options in their catalog. They specify the materials used, optical and electrical specifications, and note that prices do not include taxes or freight charges.
Water is an important consideration for green building due to increasing water scarcity around the world. Buildings account for 20% of water usage, but efficiency strategies can achieve savings of 40%. Strategies include using native plants and drip irrigation for landscaping, low flow fixtures, water monitoring, rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and composting toilets. Concrete and steel are the largest material contributors for buildings, but timber and mass timber structures are alternatives that reduce embodied carbon by up to 75%. Life cycle analysis shows embodied carbon and energy can be reduced through material selection and use of sustainable sources like FSC timber.
The document discusses energy use in buildings and electricity consumption. It begins by defining energy and power. It then discusses understanding energy use through examples of average kWh per day per person in different countries. It also discusses measuring ecological footprint. The document then focuses on understanding electricity consumption in buildings through energy modeling and case studies. It provides examples of electricity consumption data from Hong Kong for residential, office, all buildings, and renewable energy. Finally, it discusses different types of renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass that can be used in buildings.
This document discusses passive design strategies and tools for green building design in Vietnam. It defines passive design as design that considers climatic conditions to naturally cool and heat buildings without energy input. Tools discussed include software like Ecotect and IES for energy analysis and climate data sources. Fundamental passive design strategies covered are orientation, ventilation, shading, glazing selection and insulation. The document also examines the Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) metric used in Vietnam to quantify a building's thermal performance. Two case studies apply passive measures cumulatively to wall and roof designs to reduce OTTV.
This document provides an introduction to a green building course. It defines green buildings as those that are designed and built in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. It discusses the importance of sustainable built environments in the context of issues like urbanization, energy and waste in Vietnam, and climate change risks. Finally, it outlines some current ideas and movements in green building, including life cycle considerations, sustainable materials, biomimicry, high performance facades, transit oriented development, renewable energy, ecological and social sustainability, and vernacular architecture.

The document discusses a project located below Wynyard station in Sydney, Australia. Wynyard station serves as the transport hub for northern Sydney and connects to buses and trains across the city. The project site is the underground space connected to Wynyard, encompassing the area below its catchment and possibly including public spaces above ground. The project aims to accommodate the flow of 12,500 people from the station throughout the day.
The document discusses Wynyard Station in Sydney, Australia. Wynyard Station is a major transport hub and connection point for trains and buses to northern Sydney. The project site involves the underground area of Wynyard Station including the concourse and floor area, as well as an underground corridor connecting to the nearby Barangaroo site. The underground flow is meant to accommodate 12,500 people traveling between Wynyard Station and Barangaroo during morning and evening peak times.
This document proposes several experiments involving architectural space, including using columns as points of cartographic information, creating a responsive space that reacts to people, a non-visual navigation system, and a moving structure or space. It also discusses representing architecture as challenging due to individual perception and the subjective experience of space, which can evoke varied emotions. Architecture is difficult to represent as even a single word can be interpreted in many linguistic ways.

STATION/NETWORK
MOVEMENT The ability to navigate a space by experience alone is limited. Beyond this we must rely
on points of reference of which there are markers and stations. On a big scale space
is divided into countries, on a smaller scale we use stations, signs, shops and streets as
markers in order to move through space.
Have you ever been to a place that you really like, but because it doesn’t have a
particular name, boundary or reference point it has been difficult to describe to
someone?
“Territory no longer precedes the map, nor survives it. Henceforth it is the map that
precedes the territory”
In our understanding and representation of architecture, we attempt to unify
perception through techniques, media and conscious decisions of what architecture
to convey. Resulting from this is usually a representation that defines the structure
and form as the primary means to organise and capture the architectural space. In
other words, the space that is created by architecture is residual or secondary in its
conception.
A collection of examples of recent digital architecture and techniques called
‘Softspace’ (Lally, Sean + Young, Jessica) explores the non-material qualities of space,
the “softspace”. This includes air, gas, fire, sound, odors, magnetic force, electronics,
emotions, sensations, temperature, humidity and scent.
“ The tools and techniques we use to convey architecture are not neutral. As we
continue to use graphic techniques and tools focused on geometry and form as a
primary means to delineate territory, architects have suppressed spatial and material
qualities as design strategies, reverting instead to tools and graphic representations
that calibrate spatial organisation as a capturing of space through form”
This has been an influential text in this project as space and light have been explored
in the underground. Where as many Architectural projects require the contruction of
structure and form, I have taken on a brief that lends to a subtractive design, based on
the requirements of spatial quality and connection of points.
