Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. They developed software for the Altair 8800 microcomputer and formed a partnership with IBM in 1980 to bundle Microsoft's operating system with IBM computers. This partnership helped Microsoft grow rapidly. In 1985, Microsoft launched Windows 1.0 and struck a deal with IBM to develop a new operating system called OS/2, although they later had creative differences. Gates stepped down as chairman in 2014 but remains a technology advisor. He credits his success to principles like studying competition, having patience, working hard, embracing change, believing in his vision, hiring great people, and innovating daily.
