For Microsoft companies to stay at the peak of their performance and to
make their competitors struggle, retaining motivated employees who
have positive attitudes is essential. High rates of employee turnover
usually lead to additional expenses while also contributing to lowering
the morale of those workers who are retained. The implementation of
effective motivation and retention programs is beneficial for ensuring
that employees remain positive and maintain high levels of productivity
to drive their company toward and achieve a competitive advantage.
Based on a document prepared by Chakraborty (2010) for the IBS Center
for Management Research, this assessment will analyze the case data
regarding Microsoft’s strategy, generate alternatives for how the
identified issues in the case can be resolved, evaluate these alternatives,
and then propose recommendations followed by action and
implementation plans.

HOW THE SURVIVE/PRODUCTS OF
COMPANY AFFECTING OUR LIVING
Conserve, reuse, and recycle
Where feasible, we conserve natural resources through the procurement
and use of recycled, recyclable, and renewable materials; efficient use
of energy; and participation in recycling programs for our products.
Reduction and disposal of wastes
At our facilities, we reduce and—where possible—eliminate waste
through reuse of materials, source reduction, and recycling. All waste is
handled and disposed of through safe and environmentally responsible
methods.
The objectives and targets we set ensure continual improvement in our
environmental and management systems, both from our employees and
our suppliers.
Ollaborating with people, industry groups, and NGOs enables us to
maintain our high standards.
The people and organizations we empower inspire innovation from start
to finish. That’s why Microsoft is reducing our environmental footprint
through measures both large and small.
They manage the complexity of the return-and-recycle phase by
collaborating with contracted recycling partners, collection schemes,
Microsoft stores, and OEM partners.
COMPETITORS OF THE COMPANY
IN THE MARKET
Microsoft Corporation’s (MSFT) primary competitors include some of
the most prominent technology companies in the industry. The list
includes well-known brands such as Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG),
SAP SE (SAP), IBM (IBM) and Oracle (ORCL), among others. Because
Microsoft is a diversified corporation that offers many types of products
and services, the company faces stiff competition in several key areas
of the technology sector.
The biggest competitor of Microsoft is Apple, which holds the second
position in the global operating system market with 9.4% of the share
for its MAC OS. Microsoft is the undisputed leader in this segment
through Windows, the world’s largest operating system with 87.7% of
market share. Founded by Steve Jobs in 1977, Apple has 137,000
employees and reports revenues of $260 billion, while Microsoft closed
2019 with 14,000 employees and $126 billion.
Future prospects of the company
Microsoft looks set to deliver not one, but two major updates to
Windows in 2021. The first, Windows 10X, is a new, lighter-weight
version of Windows for new hardware, while the second is a long-
awaited user interface refresh of Windows 10, with user interface
elements already being tested out on Xbox.
Much of the design for both Windows 10X and the rumoured Windows
10 update builds on Microsoft’s Fluent Design, which can be seen in the
redesigned icons for Windows 10 applications and the Start menu and
taskbar update that have rolled out over recent releases.
