1. Were the essential requirements of the mentoring relationship fulfilled (“Yes” or “No”)?
If not, please explain.
Yes – We spoke on a regular schedule and were able to talk through the basics of ministry life,
ministry program development and the philosophies that Journey Church used to accomplish
ministry. Our time together was productive, informative, and relational and often enough for
progress to be seen. The student learned from my experience and I learned from hers.
2. In what areas of personal growth have you witnessed the student make the most significant
progress? (For example, character formation, ministry development, etc.)
I have seen significant progress in the way the student has been able to understand the
practical side of ministry. I believe she has a better understanding of the imperfections of
church leadership and the challenges of organizing people in ministry life. Over the years I have
seen some students become frustrated by this aspect and leave the ministry all together.
However, this student has opted to see the best in people, the best in leadership and give her
time to help improve ministry systems instead of simply point out their shortcomings.
3. What do you see as the student’s strengths in terms of church ministry and leadership?
She is organized, strategic, analytical, and has a great poise to her approach. She
communicated with conviction and with clarity but is a tremendous listener. He ability to
gather information, ask clarifying questions and then take appropriate action is especially
noteworthy.
4. What have been the strengths of the student’s ministry in your congregation?
Her ability to see a gap in systems and create solutions has been significant. One example of
this was how she created a next step form for people to complete after attending a spiritual
growth class. It asked them to consider serving in various areas of the church when the class
was over and in so doing grow closer to God. As a result, our church has grown in it number of
volunteers as a result of this action. Simply brilliant!
5. How would you rate the students overall readiness for ministry and leadership in the local
church? What type of ministry do you sense this student is called to pursue?
She is ready. She has the gifts, skills, and capacity to lead in any area she feels God leading her.
I personally feel that she would be a great fit in the area of counseling ministry, spiritual
formation, curriculum development, or evangelismministry.
6. Are there any recommendations you might make for further training or education for this
student?
I would suggest subscribing to newsletters and networks that church leaders use to stay
informed on trends in ministry. It’s important to stay up on the leadership language within
Pastoral ministry. That will give her an advantage moving forward.
7. What are the areas of growth the student should consider for their future development?
My suggestion in general would be to find ways to stay plugged into church and Christian

leadership teaching. Specifically, I would suggest growing in your strengths and spiritual gifts.
Find literature, video, podcasts, and conferences that speak to your particular calling. Who are
the voices that speak to spiritual formation, counseling, prayer and Christian leadership you
would like to learn from? Develop a growth plan in the area of your strength – not your
weaknesses. Build off the areas of your Masters degree that thrilled you, filled you with life and
moved your heart.
8. How might the student achieve such growth in the above mentioned areas? Specifically, how
can the student work in these areas of growth?
I would suggest seeking out trusted leaders in these areas and asking them for suggestions on
books, blogs, podcast, webinars, newsletters, facebook groups, etc. There is so much content
available that it really comes down to finding the voices that you trust and want to learn from.
Local pastors can suggest groups like The Rocket Company, unseminary.org, and Tony Morgan
live.
9. If you were to recommend a final grade for the student, what would you suggest?
Grade: A+
Comments: This is the grade most fitting for the work produced by this student.
10. Could you provide overall feedback regarding the mentoring ministry? Was this a positive
experience for you? Why or why not?
I very much enjoyed this experience. It was well organized and productive. The expectations
were clear for me and for the student. We were able to work through a matrix of issues and
cover a broad base of ministry subject matter in a time frame that was reasonable and realistic.
I appreciate the focus and follow-up that is involved in this process. It validates the effort from
both the student and myself. Thank you for all you do in pouring into students that will be
leading the work of the Lord in the years to come should the Lord tarry. God Bless
