East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit 
their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers. 
Assistant Mental Health Supervisor

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate: 
• Participates in the preparation, implementation and evaluation process of training activities; participates 
in researches and mental health database requested by the CMHP; 
• Assists supervisor in conducting individual , group counseling and other intervention or awareness 
sessions in the context of modeling for the Mental Health Counselors; 
• Assists in integrating mental health into UNRWA services through harmonizing the relationship of Mental 
Health Counselors with Teachers and Senior Medical Officers, Mental Health Counselors and Social 
Workers' relationships; 
• Monitors the Mental Health Counselors' performance and supports them in technical and administrative 
matters relating to the different activities of the Programme; 
• Develops mutual relations with other key players in mental health and in the development of quick crisis

intervention plans; 
• Produces weekly work plans based on plans developed by the Mental Health Counselors and submits 
them to the Mental Health Supervisor of the Area; ensures their fulfillment in accordance with the general 
objectives of the programme; 
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned 
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES 
• A university degree in mental health, psychology, social science or other related field. 
• At least two years experience, in psychosocial/humanitarian function with a development perspective 
including practical experience in mental health service provision such as counseling, therapy and/or 
clinical practice 
• Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic 
• Ability to deal with people tactfully;
• Ability to work under pressure; 
• Advanced communication skills; 
• Excellent knowledge of MS word, PowerPoint and basic skills in Excel; 
• Knowledge of mental health database and research skills; 
• Ability to supervise and train others. 
• Possession of a valid driving license. 
• The incumbent of this post will be required to travel frequently in UNRWA’s are of operations. 
• It's desirable to have experience in clinical mental health practice, counseling, and/or psychotherapy. 
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 
• Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $1,013.40; plus a currency adjustment factor (present rate 16.87%). 
and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25 and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25. 
• Contract Duration: One year. 
• Leave: 30 days annual leave 
• Pension: Provident Fund contribution 
• Other conditions of service and benefits may apply. 
EQUIVALENCY 
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and 
progressive work experience may also be considered 
Assessment Method

Where there are two or more equally qualified candidates, selection preference will normally be given to 
internal candidates, Palestine Refugees and candidates of the under-represented gender. An internal 
candidate with a temporary-indefinite or fixed-term appointment selected for this post will retain his/her 
current contractual status and entitlements in accordance with current letter of appointment and applicable 
Area Staff Rules. With their prior agreement, candidates who are approved as suitable for appointment but 
are not the selected candidate for this vacancy, will be placed on the Agency’s roster of pre-approved 
candidates for a period of up to one year, and may be considered for future vacancies in the same position. 
The Agency maintains the discretion to fill future vacancies for this position from the roster without re-advertising

the vacancy.
