This certificate certifies that Ms. Menna Mosaad participated in a field school organized by ARCHiNOS Architecture that took place from July 5th to August 9th, 2014. The field school involved students documenting physical and social aspects of an area surrounding a medieval building being conserved by ARCHiNOS in Cairo's "City of the Dead". Foreign students worked alongside Egyptian volunteers to learn about architectural conservation and the urban history of a traditional Middle Eastern city. As a volunteer staff member, Ms. Mosaad actively participated in all course activities, including in-class lectures, on-site presentations, field data collection, and individual assignments, and helped achieve the program's objectives.

participated in the Field School of Documentation and Conservation organised by ARCHiNOS Architecture
as part of the Institute of Field Research programme.
The course, titled Heritage and Community: Documenting the “City of the Dead” in Cairo, Egypt, took place
between 5 July and 9 August 2014.
Students participated in the documentation of physical and social aspects of the area surrounding a
mediaeval building under conservation and restoration by ARCHiNOS Architecture. The area, located
within the Muslim cemeteries of Cairo (known as the “City of the Dead”), is home to a numerous living
community where traditional crafts are practiced. Foreign students, working side‐by‐side with their
volunteering Egyptian peers, learned about the architectural and urban history of a traditional Middle
Eastern city, and about principles of architectural conservation and adaptive reuse. The course comprised
in‐class lectures and seminars; on‐site presentations of historic buildings and historic neighbourhoods of
Cairo; field data collection, recording and processing; and individual assignments in which students
documented and analysed historic buildings.
The work of the Egyptian volunteers was essential for the successful operation of the programme. As
a volunteer staff member, Ms Menna Mosaad actively participated in all different activities of the course,
and contributed to the achievement of its objectives.
