Mainframe Application Modernization for Enterprise DevelopersCA Technologies
The document discusses mainframe application modernization using CA Gen. It notes that many organizations depend on legacy enterprise applications built in COBOL. The challenges are modernizing these complex applications quickly enough. Renewal is presented as a lower-risk approach to modernization compared to rewriting or replacing applications. CA Gen is described as an agile development tool that can accelerate modernization by transforming existing COBOL applications into the CA Gen environment through an automated extraction, analysis, refactoring and transformation process.

The reference architecture provides guidance on developing EDA solutions using Oracle products.
These days rule engines are often overlooked, possibly because people think that they are only useful inside heavyweight enterprise software products. However, this is not necessarily true. Simply put, a rule engine is just a piece of software that allows you to separate domain and business-specific constraints from the main application flow. I am the project lead of Drools, the rule engine of Red Hat, and my target was to modernize my project and make it ready to be used in serverless environments. In this talk I will explore and make sense of technologies like GraalVM and Quarkus. I will show, with practical use cases taken from my experience with this migration, what is necessary to change in a code base — making extensive use of reflection, dynamic class loading, and other Java sorceries — to make it compatible with those technologies, and demonstrate how this is allowing us to make Drools part of the cloud and serverless revolution.

From Mainframe to Microservices: Vanguard’s Move to the Cloud - ENT331 - re:I...Amazon Web Services
The document discusses Vanguard's move from a mainframe-based architecture to microservices in the cloud. It describes Vanguard's initial complex IT environment with monolithic applications and a mainframe. Vanguard's approach was to replicate data from the mainframe to the cloud, refactor applications to make API calls to microservices, and migrate batch processes. This "strangulation strategy" allowed the monolith to be gradually replaced. The document outlines Vanguard's cloud data architecture and how it leveraged AWS services like RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda and Kinesis while addressing compliance and operational requirements. Lessons learned included preparing for regulatory needs and pushback to cloud migration.
The document provides an overview of the AWS Schema Conversion Tool (AWS SCT) which can convert database schemas between different database engines. Application Management & Support Best PracticesJulie Champagne
In today’s healthcare IT environment, it takes a lot of support and coordination – of highly skilled and experienced technical staff – to keep a modern healthcare organization running smoothly. When a HCO considers outsourcing any portion of their IT operation, there are many unknowns and considerations to assess. This webcast will present best practices and processes in both exploring an application management support solution or partner and rollout, transition and implementation. Whether supporting a legacy or production application, the solution or partner should take complex and time-consuming tasks off of the organizations plate, allowing focus on more productive, strategic, operation improving and patient experience enhancing activities.
The document discusses event-driven architecture (EDA). EDA is a software architecture pattern that promotes processing, detecting, consuming, and reacting to events. An event is defined as a significant change in state. EDA allows for real-time processing as events happen, push notifications, and immediate actions by consumers without waiting. EDA is scalable in processing, design, and adapting to change. It focuses on domain logic and collaborating with domain experts. EDA uses message brokers, producers that generate events, and consumers that process events.

Cloud native refers to building applications designed to leverage the cloud computing model and take advantage of its capabilities like scale, elasticity, and flexibility. Cloud native applications use modern technologies like containers, microservices, and APIs to be scalable, resilient, and manageable. They allow for continuous delivery and frequent updates with minimal effort through automation and loosely coupled architectures.
DevOps is more than an automated software development approach and a collaborative culture nowadays. Cloud computing, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are among the cutting-edge technologies used.
Businesses are constantly modernising their operations to increase efficiency and deliver unique client experiences. The digital transformation has accelerated the timeframes for interactions, transactions, and choices.
Companies can benefit from this data by utilising machine learning. Similarly, Machine learning (ML) models can detect patterns in massive volumes of data, allowing them to make choices faster and more correctly than people.
In this week’s Tech Tuesday, we present our pick of DevOps and Machine learning tools to pick for your business.
Convertigo is an enterprise mashup platform that allows companies to quickly create composite applications by reusing existing information system assets without rewriting them. It does this by aggregating, filtering, transforming and orchestrating existing business data, processes and user interfaces from various applications and systems. This enables faster delivery of new applications and business requirements while improving collaboration between business users and IT.
