Main Steps to Memory 	Intention 					Attention 		Association 					Retention 			Recall
Intention           - Willingness to learn. The Adult Learning Cycle: 		1. Relate- why do I want to learn this?  		2.  Observe- how does this work? 		3. Reflect- what does this mean? 		4. Do – what can I do with this? 		5. Teach- Whom can share this with?
Attention  - Concentration, Observation , and Attentiveness to details Mindfulness- totally in the moment 		- Relaxed     - Focused            - Receptive    - Alert
Association          To productively memorize something you must make an association between old and new information. When you do this you make it meaning full.	 Retention memorization- The transfer from long term memory to short term memory.  				Recall 		Repetition and practice help students retain more information. Repeat names and dates out loud, practice new applications, and make associations between information.
Memory Stragities 			1. Write it down 		2. Go from the general to the specific 			   3. Reduce information            4. Eliminate your distractions 			 5. Study in short sessions
	          6. Integrate both your left and right sides of your brain 	            7. Use all of your senses 			 8. Use Mnemonic devices 			9. Use note cards 			 10. Recite 		11. PRACTICE!
Summary, Review, and Reflect Summarize: summarize a section or chapter.  Review: review your notes and summarization Reflect: Reflect the chapter.
Overcome ObstaclesUse these questions to overcome your obstacles! Do I want to remember? Do I have a positive attitude about the information? Have I eliminated distractions? Have I organized and grouped material?
Have I reviewed right after the lecture? Within 24 hours? Have I set up weekly reviews? Have I visualized what I want to remember? Have I used repetition?
Have I reviewed the information often? Have I used memory techniques to help me associate key words? Have I summarized material in my own words? Have I used association and compared and contrasted new material with what know?
